Bob's - Hudson
Bob's
Description
Bob's Diner offers a mixed experience, with some patrons enamored by the delicious food and friendly service, while others express serious concerns over disrespectful treatment and a lack of empathy from management. While many appreciate the cozy atmosphere and affordable prices, recent changes in ownership have left long-time customers feeling alienated, particularly those with special needs. Complaints about inconsistent seating policies and perceived discriminatory practices have marred the diner’s reputation. Nevertheless, the commitment to quality food still attracts a loyal following, making it an intriguing spot for both frequent visitors and newcomers seeking a hearty meal.

While this restaurant may seem dated both inside and out, it offers a charming local vibe that matches its unpretentious name. I enjoyed a fantastic burger called the "One-eyed," which was a bacon cheeseburger topped with a perfectly cooked fried egg. The flame-broiled patty added great flavor, and the bacon was delightfully crispy. The fries were hot and crispy as well. The only downside was the bun, which was somewhat dry. The prices were reasonable and offered good value, though nearly $4 for a soda felt a bit steep. The service was excellent and friendly. I will definitely return to sample more dishes.
I visited Bob's diner and chose to sit at a booth, but a young waiter informed me that since I was alone, I needed to sit at the counter. This wasn’t feasible for me due to my recent knee replacement surgery. He insisted that the counter was my only option because they needed to accommodate more guests if they arrived, even though there were no customers waiting at that time and other tables available near the restroom. I was really taken aback by this, especially considering that I just wanted a quick lunch and would have been in and out in about half an hour. As someone who has owned restaurants, luncheon spots, and a bar, I found this approach quite hard to believe. However, I did notice a nice waitress there, and I always make it a point to leave her a good tip.
Since the son took over the restaurant, the treatment of customers has been nothing short of disrespectful. Long-time loyal patrons are being chased out, told they smell, and are even followed by the son, who now owns the place, making vulgar and offensive remarks. It’s disheartening to witness a business that the father spent years perfecting being diminished by a son who seems indifferent to its legacy.
