Matteo's Of Howard Beach

If you are interested in a fantastic Italian meal in the Howard Beach area, it will be difficult to find a much better option. We had 8 people in our group and no reservations (we literally moved to the city an hour ago) and they sat IMMEDIATELY. I can't even get this kind of service at home in West NY, let alone somewhere in the NYC area. The staff was amazing and super friendly, the atmosphere is what you would expect for fine Italian cuisine and the food was excellent! It was more than what I'm used to for, but I expected it to be there. My only regret was not to save space for Dessert! Get her Calamari and thank you later!

At Matteo's Howard Beach last night for our anniversary dinner. Let me tell you it was the best meal we had in a while!!! My husband started with the Lobster Bisque soup he said has beautiful lobster food in. I started with the Matteo-Chopped salad that just fed 4 people as an appetizer. Then we split the bucatini carbonara and the veal Milanese special, washed with a bottle of Riesling. I wish I renamed my waiter, he was really a gem, big heart and loved his job. Our glass was never empty, our records were never empty, got the whole waiting staff to sing about a Pistachio tartufo for the happy anniversary. We loved the table service and hospitality. The only drawback was that there was a party at the top and we could hear the muffled music about the music that wanted to play in the thinning room. Definitely won? We can't stop coming back.

I love her pasta, is very fresh and taste really good, beautiful place and good service. Something I don't like is if you have to pay the bill, you usually won't understand because they still argue and that's bad because you don't know if you pay properly.

Food was fabulous!!!! The decor was breathtaking. Only a huge disadvantage was my husband and I, who sat next to each other, had to communicate by text because we couldn't hear each other. Although the restaurant was only half full, it was SO VERY LOUD!!!!!! Almost felt like some tables had a competition that could talk and laugh the loudest. I was NIE on a restaurant in this uplifted and these loud at the same time. it destroyed an otherwise wonderful meal.

I visited this pace to celebrate my nieces birthday after all the amazing reviews. We were a total of over 15+ people and spent over $1,000. My issue with this place is that they state the plates are ?Family style? but, can barely feed 2 people at best. I ordered the most expensive cuts of meat to serve 2-3 people and was only offered 1 side that barely fed a single person. I had also asked about substitutions and was told yes for any of the substitutions I asked about. The food also lacked flavor and I barely finished anything because even the sauce for the shrimp scampi was like water. Prices also vary by the employee you ask and that was a HUGE RED FLAG. When it was time for the check we received a paper with chicken scratch handwriting that was not readable. When you are spending over $1,000 the least you would like to see is an itemized receipt. Then , I saw that ALL the substitutions incurred a full price charge. If we would have known that, we would have stuck to the original side instead of paying for an entire new meal just for the cost of the side. To top it off, they add a huge gratuity even if service is mediocre and charge a large percentage for debit and credit. After arriving home and going back and forth with the manager and assistant regarding the actual prices of our meals we gave up and promised to never return to this place. Save your money! Go somewhere else where you know what you?re paying for and is actually worth it! If you do, please ask for a decent receipt where it looks like an actual adult is writing.
