What User doesn't like about Texas Tamale Company:
I bought chicken cakes from Trader Joe. Worst taste and texture I?ve ever experienced in a tam. Wheated two of the dozen, tried to eat, but the fools were very dry and the meat filling was not delicious at all. Had a ride and threw the rest for the coyotes. View all feedback.
Do not waste your money, worst tamales I have ever had. First off these are very expensive and the tamales are the size of a sharpie marker. The filling is disgusting looks like dog food and the masa is dry and bland. Not authentic at all, I cant believe this product is even on the market! If you want a decent frozen tamale Delimex or El monterey are waaay better than this garbage.
Purchased these February 2923 at Publix in Florida. I love tamales so making them was simple. Their instructions are easy enough. Add a little hot sauce, and some sides and you’re all set. Very authentic Mexican Tamales.
Just bought TTC frozen tamales from HEB. Instructions on package do not indicate how to steam or microwave if they are frozen. I called TTC's Corporate Office to get frozen cooking instructions. The woman who answered the phone was not friendly or helpful, and although she was not rude, she bordered on uncaring. She said to cook the tamales in the microwave 2 minutes whether they are frozen or refrigerator temperature. Hmmmm.....we all know that a pound of frozen tamales (or a pound of anything) will not cook as fast as a pound of non frozen tamales. Very disappointed in her lack of concern. I'll defrost the tamales, but certainly think TTC should have better cooking instructions since the tamales are sold frozen.
Be warned this is in a sketchy shopping strip and parking can be a challenge mid day, but this place has hands down some of the best tamales and breakfast food in the city! They've been my go to for many years and I often buy their tacos and tamales for the office and all of my coworkers love them. The green salsa is the bomb! Make sure you ask for extra because they usually only give one or two. Definitely recommend this place!
Tamales have been my absolute favorite since I moved here to Houston. I know this place. This was the first time. It said Free coffee at the door. It made me feel like saving $1. Actually, the tamales were super cheap. I got 6. 3 spinach and 3 black beans. Both of them were super delicious. And the coffee was also super good.I wish I could try beef or pork, but my vegetarian diet couldn 't allow me to eat. Maybe, next time!
