Everything was great, food, service and atmosphere. A little spendy for my budget, but everything was excellent and I would highly recommend it. I'll save up again so I can go. We went to the rodeo, dinner and then dancing. It was a lovely evening and the grounds and surroundings were lovely. View all feedback.
What Mark B doesn't like about Tejas Steakhouse Saloon:
Last night I was supposed to celebrate my 68th birthday. I specifically chose this place because I wanted to have prime rib. I made a 7:30 reservation and on the Saturday prior I called to ask if the prime rib was going to be available for my reservation. I heard the young lady ask someone else about it then assured me that it was available. So I made the hour drive last night only to be told by the server that prime... View all feedback.
Everything was wonderful—the food, service, and atmosphere. It was a bit pricey for my budget, but the quality was excellent, and I would definitely recommend it. I'm planning to save up again so I can return. We attended the rodeo, had dinner, and then went dancing. It turned out to be a lovely evening, and the setting was beautiful.
However, I did take off a star due to the dessert. We sampled both the peach cobbler and the bread pudding, and as a fan of both, I found them lacking. The cobbler consisted of some crumbled pieces mixed with what seemed like canned peach filling, which was unappealing. The bread pudding came without any sauce and was merely bits of dry bread with a sprinkle of cinnamon on top. They really need to improve both desserts.
We started with fried jalapeños and pickles, which were hot, crispy, and everything you want in a fried appetizer. For our main course, we ordered the KC steak for two, which came with four appetizers. The best part? They let us customize the steak's cooking temperature for each of us. My first words were, “Wow, someone knows how to season a steak!” It was tender, flavorful, and as a steak snob who has managed a high-end steakhouse for years, I can confidently say this was a great one. Our server, Sonny, was attentive and genuinely concerned about our enjoyment of the meal, offering helpful suggestions along the way. I tend to ask a lot of questions (it's just in my nature), and he answered every one of them. I could tell he was relatively new to the job, but his earnestness and attentiveness made me think that any manager would be proud to have him on their team. Speaking of the management, the manager herself stopped by—not in a perfunctory way but rather to genuinely welcome our feedback. That earns extra points from me. I didn’t even need the sides since I was already full, so I won't comment on them. Sonny discovered we were headed to the rodeo and offered us drinks to go, which was a smart move. We left with to-go cups, full bellies, and big smiles. Go ahead and eat here. This place is not just some cheesy cowboy-themed steakhouse; it’s a steakhouse with outstanding steak.
Got the KC steak for one and a prickly pear margarita, and it was delicious. We had a reservation so we were seated quickly. They have all the Texas staples that make you feel like you are in a Western film. The cowboy nachos made for a great appetizer and the restaurant quieted down once the rodeo next door started.
There were 9 people in our party and we were excited to try this place. we began with 3 baskets of fried pickles and jalepenos, they were delicious! The bread was good, just a little too dense/heavy. For the main course, one person ordered the prime rib which came out correctly made, and four of us ordered the KC steak medallions. One person ordered medium rare, two ordered medium, and one ordered medium well. All KC medallions came out the exact same- well done, no pink in the middle and the KC spice rub burnt on the outside. The lovely waitress then placed orders to remake the steak medallions for two people, my husband and I decided we would stick with what we had just to be safe. The new order of medium rare steak medallions came out raw in the middle and had to be sent back to cook a little longer and the new medium well medallions came out right. The waitress seemed embarrassed by the outcome of the steak medallions and even went ahead and cooked more for my husband and me. Our side orders were mashed potatoes-good, asparagus-great, green beans-bland, broccoli-overcooked/mushy. For dessert, I had the bourbon caramel cheesecake, it was good. After the meal we left to check out the little area. Since we were the only people eating outside, we left our to-go boxes of steak and prime rib, and several birthday presents on the table. Five minutes later we returned and the table was cleaned and all the to-go boxes with the left over steak and prime rib were thrown in the trash. The birthday gifts were taken to the hostess table. Needless to say, not a great experience.
