The gardens are free and are great in many respects but very few people pay the reasonable fee to tour the house which is really worth doing. There is a introductory video and a free audio guide which is worthwhile. What wiltingbas doesn't like about Cafe At Chiswick House:
The grounds of Chiswick House are splendid but the cafe is not for everyone. Located by the playground it is noisy and was filled with screaming children during my visits. View all feedback.
The staff here are completely charmless and sullen, monosyllabic and borderline rude, and they don’t accept cash … we won’t be returning …
One of the most friendly cafes in west London staff are second to none lovely coffee and food the almond croissants are the best give it a go
Overpriced, soggy sandwiches (and I mean really soggy disintegrating slop) and grumpy staff who looked aggrieved to be interrupting their conversation even to take my money. AndI heard other tables complaining, too. Next time stuff you, English Heritage I'm bringing a picnic.
Extremely rude staff and poorly made coffee. Big shame as the location is great next to a really nice English Heritage location. The staff seem to go out of their way to ignore you, looking at you when you ask a question and then just walking away, which happened twice. Will not return again.
Only fairly average inoffensive sub pret food, but was shutting nearly two hours before advertised closing time and turning away customers because it was raining (a fairly common occurrence in the UK). Staff completely unapologetic and seemed to think this normal. Another business that takes advantage of the British tendency not to complain.
