Great little spot right by the sea. Delicious coffee and amazing Dutch stroopwaffels. We tasted them in Amsterdam and taste exactly the same if not better. went back to bring home too! Also very affordable. On a beautiful day it is nice to see the surfers and Mt Cook. The owners are also beautiful. Come here, it's a jewel! View all feedback.
We are in Greymouth just for the day and we messaged The Lifeboat on FB to see if they were open cos we were dreaming of Stroopwafel! They were not open cos it is such a rainy day, but Monique said she was coming to town and she would drop some to us! She did and they were amazing! Such wonderful service, thank you Monique!!
Best coffee I’ve had on the South Island so far! Stopping to sip and search for dolphins is also superb. Richard Monique are part of a unique, sweet experience!
Richard is an absolute legend! The filter coffee is great the waffles are the best in NZ! Epic spot with the most positive vibes. Cheers man
Actually, my husband and I went there two years ago, back in March 2017, when The Lifeboat was only a few months open. We spent some time here since Richard soooo was nice, honest and friendly to us. He told us about his life, and we told him about our lives and dreams. It was really a nice conversation with this super friendly guy. I always remember him, his great coffee (one of the best we tasted in NZ), and his Dutch stroopwafel (as sweet as the owner). In the end, when we had to leave his little beautiful shop, he gave us another stroop-wafel free with the shape of the heart and a message: Follow your heart. You have the energy, you have each other. I would never forget that kindness and sincerity of Richard. I would highly recommend this place to try his coffee and stroopwafel, and definitely a conversation with Richard. I hope we can visit this place again in the future
The water is on your side and the wind comes in. On the left side, the ocean sweeps the channel that flows on the right side. They reach the end. The end of the earth. It seems a miracle. A small blue boat sits on the edge of the rocks with two smiling people on board. When you get closer, the smiles get bigger. The man with the gray cap begins to wave. You've been out for days. You start thinking. What do I see? Go on. The bleeding is not fade. They're approaching the boat. The man with the gray cap calls. Hello! Would you like a coffee? You know it's not a miracle. This is the lifeboat. The lifeboat NZ. The little blue boat on the edge of the world. A smell hits the nose. It's known. Remember when you were young. What's going on? Then you will see the man with the gray cap opening the oven to the left. He pulls out a steaming gold circle. You ask a question. What's that? It's a stroop. What? A stroop. A Dutch cookie. With butter and honey and cinnamon. Cinnamon. That's it. About Arthur's Pass. Right on the edge of Greymouth and now you have found fresh stroopwafels and coffee. Filter coffee. Coffee that has the smoothness of tea, but the taste of coffee. I'll take a coffee and a big stroop. You learn the name of men. It's Richard. His partner Monique pours water into the boiler that sits over the fire. The steam begins to come. Richard typing the kettle over the cup. The water looks through the beans through the paper into the cup. You can smell it. Fresh coffee fresh Stroopwafels cinnamon butter honey. Everything. The lifeboat blocks the wind from the ocean. Blocks the wind so you can get the best coffee on the west coast. You didn't think there was a lot. Then the lifeboat NZ appeared. Two smiling faces. Two delicious offers. You're blowing the coffee. Take a sip and then bite the scoop. Sip bite bite. Richard tells about his time in Greymouth. How he and Monique met in primary school. Sip bite bite. It's done. You're at the end of the coffee, but the stories are still going. It's time for seconds. Sip bite bite. The whole way from the other side of the world and you found The Lifeboat NZ. Two coffees two waffles two amazing people. You found it.
