Kaniere - Hokitika
Kaniere
Description
A tidy, family-run coastal pub and hotel marries historic charm with great value: fresh, well-priced food (notably fish & chips and burgers), cold beer and friendly service. Rooms are clean and comfortable if modest; shared kitchen, free tea/coffee, reliable internet, bike storage and strong shower pressure make it popular with cyclists and budget travelers. Set beside the Wilderness Trail and Lake Kaniere, it’s ideal for casual nights out or outdoor stops—though a strict ID policy and limited bar hours may catch some guests off guard.

We both liked it. I would have liked a bed side light to read at night. Otherwise it is clean and tidy. Great shower !! It's a very old pub so you have to expect it to not be luxurious. Service: 4
Really nice owner, and free tea and coffee is available in the shared kitchen. The bar is also available until 8pm if you don't want to cook. Room was small and not very modern, but clean and did the trick.
Had the steak burger with free chips on fridays special. It really does come with a knife in it like the picture : Fresh and clean ingredients, lots of chips especially since they were a bonus. Friendly staff, cozy place. Service: 5
Would not recommend for a family got told everyone that enters needs id !!! I was simply just trying to get myself dinner but was refused so by the very unwelcoming server as I did not have id on me even though I was not requesting drinks what so ever, This is completely out of line for somewhere that has a (kids) menu highly disappointed.
