Their chips are the best. br/ br/ They seem like that they have the certain way to fry it well. br/ br/ The saltiness and crispiness are perfect. br/ br/ I had their whitebait toast, too. The toast range is also recommended. Simple, but it's just right of butter inside. br/ br/ Though I didn't have fish, I can tell that must be good. View all feedback.
What ianlorraine106719 doesn't like about Porky's Takeaways:
The food is excellent, especially the fish and chips, but it's not suitable for diners with celiac disease. They do offer gluten-free batter, but it's cooked in the same oil as non-gluten-free items, and there isn’t a dedicated fryer. My husband enjoyed a fantastic meal, though! View all feedback.
Now known as Township, this place offers the best gluten-free fish I've ever had! They have a great selection of gluten-free options.
This is an affordable and cheerful takeaway spot. They have a dedicated gluten-free menu displayed.

This is a fantastic spot to check out if you’re in the mood for high-quality fish and chips. The place isn’t fancy at all, so I didn’t have high expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the blue cod with chips, and the fish was cooked to perfection, featuring a crispy batter on the outside and tender fish inside. The chips were just a tad undercooked, but still very tasty. Although it tends to get quite busy, the service is fast. I would certainly return here, especially given the reasonable prices.
Porky's Takeaways in Hokitika is definitely one of the top spots for fish and chips in New Zealand, possibly even in the world. The variety of fish available is outstanding, but the chips are simply extraordinary. They are chunky, crispy potato chips, just like your mom used to make, and they're cooked in authentic fat, so you don't have to worry about any undesirable oil flavors. Even if you're health-conscious, it's worth indulging every now and then, and Porky's is the perfect place to do so—after all, what better way to enjoy a good dose of salt than with fish and chips? The service is friendly and efficient, and you'd really need to be a harsh critic to find anything to complain about. The shop is clean and well-organized, with beautifully presented signs and menu boards that have a charming old-fashioned style, clearly crafted by a talented sign writer. It's truly impressive and definitely worth capturing on camera. Enjoy your visit!
