Had a great lunch here yesterday, just 2 courses each, from a good varied menu. Sashimi was fabulous, also fish in batter and chips, can’t really muck about with them really ? Some good Tasmanian wine and good friends, recommend it for a casual lunch, a bit noisy with the table next to us with lots of kids, but still a good place for inexpensive dining. View all feedback.
What Witch Doctor P doesn't like about Poseidon Restaurant:
To be honest, it was better when it was the fish bar. Seafood basket, non crunchy, standard takeaway chips, fried seafood, nothing flash hot, pretty boring, thank God for the tartar sauce... The coleslaw, tasteless, no zing, standard coleslaw. Fried chicken, looks impressive on the way out, big plate full of chicken! it's super crispy, but alas tastes like cardboard. Maybe a sauce on the side would be good, chilli, g... View all feedback.
My elderly father and I walked in here and ended up having a really lovely meal. The decor is basic but comfortable. The fish and flavours were really lovely. I had the seafood chowder, which I would order again. My father was happy with his salmon. Wine was a good price and it was obvious that many locals return to this restaurant.
My husband loves seafood so we are spending an indulgent weekend in Hobart. After 1.5 days of incredible hospitality, this was a letdown. We shared a dozen Bruny Island oysters, then I ordered the sashimi platter while my husband had the cold seafood platter. My sashimi was very thickly cut, making the tuna difficult to enjoy. I had to order more soy sauce to help me get it down. The clincher though was when my husband asked for a second piece of bread for his platter. The only piece given was small mind you. The waitress looked like she was in pain then explained she needed to get permission!!! She returned to advise that another small piece of bread was able to be given for an additional charge of $2.50. My husband reluctantly accepted... I just want another piece to enjoy with my meal.... After that, we left as quickly as possible to have dessert and coffee ....ANYWHERE else. It has been a long time since I have been so put off. Ambiance zero. Service zero. Food average.
We had a trio of various oysters for entree and then I had the Parmesan crusted salmon for main. The prices were reasonable and they're in the entertainment book so great savings can be had. Service and friendliness of staff was good.
We went here because next door at Solo was full and we had a 90 minute wait. The menu looked attractive and we thought it would be good alternativen First of all it took 15 minutes to get us water and more to come take our order. it's not the server's fault. 2 girls covering an entire floor is crazy. they are overworked and understaffed. Then my order of half a serve of flake was taken as 1 1/2 order of flake. The server took it off the bill when I asked but if they weren't rushing the order wouldn't have been taken wrong. We ordered a bunch of things, the Fisherman Basket was huge, the chowder tasted more like a curry but was delicious nonetheless, the flake was fresh and well cooked. The Greek salad was overloaded with feta, literally too much of a good thing The ramen was TINY. yes it's an entree portion but for 7.50 honestly expected more. Look at the pictures and judge for yourself. You can see the potential in this place but a lot needs to be done. The crispy chicken was nice tough, soy garlic better than chilli which had zero spice
Maybe a sauce on the side would be good, chilli, ginger garlic sesame, coriander and lime would give it some type of flavour. Service was good, wait time not too bad. All in all, I wish I got the sashimi, and I wish I ate at a better seafood restaurant. Won't be coming back any time soon.
