First visit to the refurbished Cascade and what a great little pub. Primarily now a restaurant, it has been tastily renovated and is warm and welcoming. Hosts and staff are attentive and the food is tasty and plentiful. You will not leave hungry. Think twice before ordering an entree, you may not need it. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Cascade Hotel:
What used to be a friendly local pub with affordable and good pub meals is now sadly overpriced and under serviced. The food wasn't bad but very overpriced for pub meals. The steak was 47.00 ..which is more than you would pay at some of Hobart's best restaurants. Disappointing service from the barman Malcolm serving us behind the bar. Maybe he was having a really bad day but eveything seemed to be difficult and he di... View all feedback.

Yet another visit to this friendly pub. The food was excellent. Best fish and chips and one of my friends had Lambs Fry, she thoroughly enjoyed it. Even mopped up some of the gravy with chips 'borrowed' from a friends plate. It was a very enjoyable meal made even better by the lovely lady who served us. We will certainly be back. Thank you.
We had a large group booked for lunch. When we arrived the table was the weirdest set up ever in an L shape with people expected to sit virtually back to back. We solved it by putting children there. Being such a large group we went to order and pay at the bar but told it was table service, this already set off alarm bells as at 1230 the waitresses already looked frazzled. I couldn't see any children's items on the menu and although I was sitting with two children wasn't advised of any options for kids so instead ordered a seafood basket to share. Upon arrival it had two fake calamari rings, two burnt scallops, one piece of fish the size of my pinkie, a prawn, an oyster and pickled squid and smoked trout about 1 kg of enormous chips. Predictably at bill time confusion reigned. We asked where to pay and stood at the designated till waiting to pay for a few minutes. I found the children's menu on a blackboard tucked into a nook. Handy. The waitress came out and said "your bill as been paid". And after several minutes of us all looking strangely at each other many thought our father must've surprised us and started to leave. I knew he would never be that generous and stood my ground. The waitress opened the till and wandered off leaving the cash out for anyone. We were then told it was a mistake and we did have to pay so we had to find relatives in the street and bring them back. Then at the end my parents were told several people hadn't paid and they paid for them. When we got home these relatives were called and they had paid earlier. All of this could've been avoided by paying at order time, especially with a large group. It's a pub and people like to relax. The acoustics were terrible and we couldn't hear each other and many were disappointed with their meals.I won't go back but not because of the food.Service. It needs to be good and well thought out to cater to customers' needs.
Much improved in every way since the new owners took over in 2016, the pub has been renovated and looks different to the photos here
We had dinner at the great little Cascade Hotel yesterday evening and the food, service and wine were all excellent. We started with the Pepperberry Damper and it was very good. Little short of inspirational on the part of the chef, for there you are in a pub at the foothills of Mt Wellington where wild Pepperberry grow enjoying a typical Australian Damper. It's served with a generous amount of butter and olive oil and balsamic dip. The meals that followed were also interesting, generous and tasty. Braised Wallaby Fillets and roasted Veal Shanks. We enjoyed it all with a reasonably priced and good Shiraz. If you go to the Cascade Hotel during the months when the evenings are longer, try to walk from Hobart to South Hobart along the lovely little rivulet and you'll have a delightful evening and great meal. We will certainly be paying another visit very soon to this good South Hobart Hotel
