Van Vietnamese Cuisine - Hilo
Van Vietnamese Cuisine
Description
Nestled in Hilo, this tidy, newly refreshed Vietnamese spot serves authentic, economical fare with standout dishes like a spicy satay beef noodle soup, solid pho and inventive banh mi. Generous portions, quick service, and roomy, family-friendly dining make it a convenient stop for locals and park visitors. Occasional inconsistencies in noodle texture and some overcooked meats, plus a sometimes brusque manager, are minor downsides to an otherwise charming hole-in-the-wall worth returning to for its niche flavors.

This restaurant is excellent! The wait time was around 10 minutes, and the portion sizes were generous—I couldn't even finish my meal! The service was very pleasant as well. If you're coming from Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, this is definitely the best place to stop. Highly recommended!
Food: Authentic, nothing overly done, very simple menu. Generally overall just decently priced and good. Pho (7/10) a lot of broth, nice and light, good portions of meat. Banh Mi (8/10) options are good, even offering Philly cheese steaks haha! I think they use Hellmans mayo but add in a little extra seasonings/aromatics in it just to help accentuate the flavor of it but I could be wrong, still good. Service: Quick! They waste no time to get the food out as soon as it's ready. Then again, they aren't as busy as I wish they were (hope their business stays afloat) but no complaints whatsoever. If you are southeast asian, you kind of get the gist of how their demeanor is (no offense intended) but it's just how it is (they aren't rude, if that's what you're getting from this review).Ambiance: I could care less if this place was an open outdoor kitchen, or next to the highway. As long as you got a place to sit and eat no bugs invading my mealtime, it's all fine to me. A lot of open space, very clean, quiet.
Great food and service. I love the sandwiches, pho and vermicelli beef. I wish they had fried spring rolls.
Really love this place. It 's a cute hole in the wall place serving authentic Vietnamese dishes. It 's a limited menu but the dishes are really yummy and tasty. My husband and I tried the beef and pork roll, meatball pho, van special and Philly cheesesteak banh mi. All of it was really delicious.I wish they served beef stew or spicy beef soup too and I bet it would be really awesome! There 's lots of tables to eat indoor and it 's clean and spacious. It 's a good place to bring family and friends and quite economical.Support local and this restaurant!!!
