My husband and I came without our kids for my 50th birthday! In 25 yrs of marriage, this is only our 3rd all inclusive resort that we've visited as we prefer to go to locations that we can explore on our own. However, we needed a few days of rest relaxation and we couldn't have picked a better place. Ok, here are our thoughts on Jewel Punta Cana Resort Spa (formerly Dreams): Pros: -food at buffet, restaurants and room service was excellent (never had a bad meal, bad snack or bad drink) -service was exceptional (friendly, helpful, hardworking and accommodating staff; when they said hello to you, they put their hand on their heart and their greetings always felt genuine) -pool was amazing (huge so it never felt crowded; we had the deluxe swim out room which I highly recommend getting; bring your own float to relax in the pool) -nice fitness/sports area -overall the resort was well kept and beautiful Cons: -no outdoor hot tub -beach (a lot of seaweed in the ocean and on the shore but they had people raking it daily; can't control Mother Nature) -room decor needs updating but inline with what you'd expect from an oceanside hotel; housekeeping was always prompt and the room was kept as clean as possible -spa services gift shop were pricey but that's expected -waitstaff does not come directly to the front of the swim up rooms for drink orders but we flagged someone down and they brought us drinks Overall, it's a great resort! Enjoy!

This resort has the WORST service and room accommodations ever! Never have I ever felt so pushed to the side just because I'm not a preferred member. They told me that if I want to be a preferred member I would have to pay an additional $700. While the exterior of the resort is beautiful, the interior for a deluxe bedroom is DEPLORABLE! If I wasn't here to support a friend I would leave!! The AC is not working, they told us they would come and fix it, they have come three times, looked at the unit and left. After my husband took a shower, the water won't drain....disgusting! I have called now and have been waiting for over an hour to attend to this issue. I would never recommend this place to anyone unless they pay for a preferred room.

Long review ahead I came here to celebrate a close friend 's wedding, and thought it would be a good idea to extend the stay into a little vacation with another friend. My friend 's wedding was well executed and very tasteful. It made me hopeful for this vacation. After staying here a few days made me realize that this is probably the only thing Dreams Resort does well. The good 1) The grounds are, in fact, quite nice. There is a small flamingo pond and a small turtle habitat. 2) There 's a gorgeous pool in the middle that runs from the main hall to the beach. The grounds are well kept 3) The pineapples were consistently tasty 4) Cafe Coco, the coffee bar in the main building served up some really good cappuccinos. Food products were a little stale 5) Mardi Gras/Carnival celebration was a lot of fun 6) The nachos at the Barefoot grill were pretty good. 7) Decent massages they managed to get one of my stubborn knots out The bad 1) The rooms are old and are starting to show their age. To top it off, the rooms are humid to the point where our bedding was starting to smell a little musty. 2) Our TV did not work throughout the trip. The bathtub is weirdly high and there 's no curtain just half of a plexiglass, so alllll the bathwater just spills on the floor. 3) Also basics like shower gel (they have a bath soap instead) and a dryer (have to call concierge, only one speed) are not in the room. 4) The key card was very finicky and some days we 'd have to wait 10 min before our key card worked to get in. We had to walk to the concierge desk twice to tell them it wasn 't working. We asked if we could have another room, which was met with resistance. The Ugly 1) They targeted us for some raffle to stay in their 'nicer ' resort in addition to a $20 lobster dinner on the beach. After getting our info they tried to have a us take a bus to tour the property without asking if we were free or available. They also recommended that we lie about our age so they could get more referral points, which I didn 't appreciate. Needless to say we managed to escape it, after reading other reviews about people spending hours and wasting time listening to a timeshare presentation. 2) The food here is borderline passable. I can count on one hand the foods I genuinely enjoyed. Our first night, we went to the hibachi dinner at Himitsu, the Japanese restaurant. If you get there between 5 7 you can put your name down and get a buzzer. In about 30 40 min you are seated. It was pleasant, the chef did some minor tricks. Food was okay, fried ice cream was the best part. We also tried Bordeaux which has a pretty good duck confit with mashed potatoes, if you overlook the strange fruit sauce on the side. World Cafe was okay for breakfast, dinner was a hit or miss, mostly a miss. 3) In terms of activities to do, they have a nightly 9:30pm show that they only advertise the day of. We saw a magic show one night where there was absolutely no talking for 1 hour. It involved a lot of birds and boxes, one rabbit guest appearance. The game show is a computerized horse race. They were renovating their club, so as of now there 's a small room that looks like someone 's living room where they blast music. Playlist was pretty good though. 4) The drinks. Omg the drinks. They were either too sugary or too watered down. Only the Manatee swim up bar made one, singular good mojito the whole time I was there. Otherwise, I just stuck to wine, which was a safer bet. 5) One of my friends fell asleep by the pool and had her phone stolen from inside her bag. If you made it to the end of this long review, congratulations. If you 've scrolled to the end to see what I 've said in short, this place is nawwwwttt a luxury resort and you should keep your expectations very, very low if you decide to come here. Activities are limited, pool is really nice, food is meh. If you have a few extra bucks, spend it at a different resort.

Easy long weekend get away that the staff made outstanding! Great entertainment and amazing beach and landscaping. Rooms are dated but who spends time in their room while in the DR? Not us...upgrade to the preferred club drink package. Well worth it!
