I hadn't seen him since January, and it also being his birthday, my part... read more I took my Dad here tonight after he'd made the long trip up from London by air and bus. I hadn't seen him since January, and it also being his birthday, my partner and I felt he deserved a treat. We went to the Norseman because of their fantastic local reputation for food and service. I phoned beforehand to book a table, as it can be very busy. Although we were going to arrive at the end of service, this was not a problem for the excellent team. Pat helped us select a preferable table over the phone, a mere 15 minutes before arrival, and we were greeted warmly by her at reception. The waiting staff were excellent. A waiter was at our table within a few moments, taking our drink order. Service was very efficient throughout our evening, and the friendly staff were constantly on hand for drinks refills and to check we were satisfied with our meal. The meals themselves were excellent. I had the duck, which was cooked to perfection, and my dad and partner the bbq melt and fish respectively. The kitchen staff had no problem catering to my Dad's deviations from the menu he's a very fussy eater! despite being the end of service. Full and happy customers all round. We would not hesitate to recommend the Norseman. Nothing was too much trouble. A brilliant meal in a comfortable, relaxed setting really made our night and was a fantastic welcome to the county for Dad. We will return again and again. Many thanks to Adrienne, Pat and the team.
