Chaplin - Highland
Chaplin
Description
Nestled in a picturesque setting, the restaurant offers an inviting ambiance with its striking film-themed decor and garden views. Guests have praised the food for its pleasant presentation and generous portions, though opinions on execution have varied, with some dishes like the pork and roast beef receiving criticism for dryness and overcooking. While the service ranged from satisfactory to exceptional, comfort issues in the conservatory during colder months were notable. Overall, the dining experience is enhanced by the friendly staff and enticing menu, making it a worthy destination for a casual meal or a special occasion, despite some room for improvement.

We had a great meal at the restaurant, enjoying some tasty Cullen skink, Balmoral chicken, and pork. The dishes were well presented and served in generous portions. Matthew provided excellent service and we look forward to dining here again in the future.
The food was nicely presented, but nothing stood out as exceptional. Unfortunately, the pork fillet was dry and the roast beef was overcooked. Desserts were enjoyable, and the service was satisfactory. The restaurant has a unique decor featuring film-themed items and offers a nice view of the garden. Despite spending 7 nights in Nairn, I did not return to this restaurant.
Seriously, what's wrong with plates! I ate here while staying in the hotel alone on a business trip. The staff were friendly and attentive. For my starter I ordered a prawn cocktail, now I was born in the 80s and I know that prawn cocktail is really a 70s classic, but in my mind it should be served in a glass bowl, or at the very least a China plate, but instead it arrived on a slate!!! Admittedly it did look very good, but really, we evolved from eating off of stone several thousand years ago!!! Anyway, rant over. The prawn cocktail itself was very tasty even though the prawns were absolutely tiny! For main course I have ordered the chicken caesar salad. Let's hope that doesn't come served on a bread board! ... .... Hooray, they found the plates! Caesar salad is pretty tasty, although lacking a little on the anchovy front for my taste. Not shy on the chicken though. All in all a good feed, I really quite enjoyed that.
We ate here on two evenings and on both occasions the food was very well prepared and extremely tasty. Very reasonably priced. Well worth a visit.
