A lovely old pub worth visiting. Great ales. We had a light lunch but a bit disappointing. The crispy bacon baquette was well charred. Lovely staff and dog friendly. Lovely views and walks nearby Price per person: £10–20 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
Food was not as great as I thought it would be checking people's reviews before we went in.Very average for the price with not much flavour.Would not be stopping there again. Food: 3 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3
Hadn't been here for ages and we came on the wettest Sunday! SUCH a warm welcome, fire burning, we sat in the cosy conservatory, food was as excellent as it always has been. Fantastic service too. Love the Rat and wish I lived closer! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

The center of the kitchen is on traditional foods, but it is delivered with an instinctive feeling for the ingredients. all three dishes were cooked professionally and padded with taste. the positive impressions were amplified by the workers in front of the house, who were all very friendly during my meal. it can be from where I was in west cumbria, but the advice inn was worth definitiw, the all-round for. I would recommend it thoroughly and will definitely travel later to look back to North.
Absolutely fabulous traditional pub, about 2 miles from hexham. large menu only from sandwiches lunch) to share plates to share hunks of bark. all locally related. really nice staff we come back!
Dipped to lunch. it is quite early, just as good, because very popular. friendly efficient staff. nice dinner. well kept beer. has both inside and outside seats. parking space for about a dozen cars.
A lovely visit on a beautiful day. Sat in the garden with my dog after a warm welcome from the staff. What a treat to have a cold pint of cider on the sunny 1st of June! Food was very good. Potted shrimps followed by fabulous Confit Duck which was 'French good '! Would definitely recommend. This type of country pub is one of Britain 's greatest treasures.
Great place, we booked a 4 day mini break around visiting this pub and we weren't disappointed. the conchiglie and the sirloin of beef we had was excellent with the veg being cooked to perfection. i even ate the cabbage which i rarely do. the beer was also very good (a pint called ratty, if you believe that) if had to be picky i'd say it was expensive but to be honest i expected that, look at £20 per meal but well worth it.
