Sen Chay - Helsinki

Sen Chay calls itself a Vietnamese restaurant, but the menu incorporates elements from many East Asian cuisines. All is vegetarian and mostly vegan. I had lunch with a friend, and we both were very happy: fried noodles with tofu and mushrooms strong umami there – and a tofu curry with distinct notes of lemongrass and curry leaves. This was the first time I tried their lunch specials and was very pleased: their menu is extensive and interesting, but the quality at lunchtime was much better.

Place seemed full of potential, my friend good a very good dish, but I got noodles that were badly burnt and the service was not very friendly or fast, it just was. Usually not a problem but coupled with badly prepared food it did not leave a good taste. I hope that it is usually better prepared.

We had pho and fried noodles. Both dishes were very tasty and the price was great. A strong recommendation.

Very tasty Vietnamese food. Some dishes might be a bit bland if you have just one on your own, but this food is meant to be shared! I think everything is fresh and the price quality ratio is good. The staff don’t speak English and sometimes very little Finnish, but that has never been a problem for me.

My favourite Asian restaurant in Helsinki, possibly even in the world. (and yes, even after visiting Asia I can say this for sure) At Sen Chay they only offer vegan meals and they know how to make it. A must visit in Helsinki!
