While visiting Sydney we went on a walk about to find something to eat. We wanted to find somewhere in the Chinese quarter to get a meal. We stumbled upon Mrs Chan's Kitchen. There were plenty of people eating here which we thought was a good sign and we were not wrong. We ordered two starters and two main meals. Our food was all freshly cooked and very tasty. The staff were very friendly and attentive to our needs.... View all feedback.
What Braulio Rogahn doesn't like about Charlie Chans:
Encountered an unpleasant experience with a male bartender who was Asian, looked quite young, with shorter appearance (worked on Saturday night around He was extremely unprofessional and arrogant as he intentionally questioned my ID asking personal questions like why I am not on my full licence etc and making a judgement like that. First time it happened and I felt offended and discriminated against as it was due to... View all feedback.

I Often to come this restaurant The restaurant at the back this pub I love food, the price is worth it And there no table service I always bought the pad siew with pork and fried rice with pork And my last experience is This staff (a girl, I think she was a new girl, becAuse it was my first time seen her) She took my order and give me the wrong foods And I told her, that's not my order do you know, what she did to me? She said "No, this is your" I never order pad Thai, I always order pad siew And she still force me to have that I keep said "that's not my order" And she upset, show her attitude, And Then when she bring the right food for me, she put the plate with the disrespectful way "PLANK....!!!" So Rude...
To find out how lousy pubs along south end of George Street can get, we entered Charlie Chan. The small bar almost resembles a home bar with small collection of bottles sit on mirrored shelf. A handful beer taps open up to a small L shape drinking area. The miniature sized drink options and sitting area bring second guess if you are really in a commercial establishment. The back of the pub (if you can call it a pub) joins a Thai restaurant. The decor is something like out of a 80s Hongkong movie. My husband tried to order one fifty lashes on tap but the Asian bartender simply couldn't understand him. We resolved to use finger pointing to overcome the language barrier. We came to find out how **** pubs on this part of George street can be and have a laugh, we succeeded! thernbdiary.com
Price of food was higher than that of, say, Newtown but quality was no worse. The service was efficient, provided you had your order ready, and polite; however, service could be rather slow. Ambience was understated, being that it is a tiny open-air dining area at the back of the pub/bar. If you are looking for a quick meal, we recommend Mrs. Chan's Kitchen.
Wow what a little hidden gem, although no food were tasted here but their bar was phenomenal. The bartender definitely knew her drinks inside-out and served us well throughout the night. The prices were very reasonable too and great ambient atmosphere while chilling out.
