Most of the tables are for two to four people so, if your party is bigger, a reservation is essential. Mexx is a very popular spot for watching football on the big screen so on local match days, expect to have to make a reservation well in advance. The food here is pretty good and portions are generous. It 's not expensive and the menu ranges from small snacks like sandwiches or nachos to full dinner courses.. but all casual dining. They have 2 or 3 specials on a daily basis, which is a good thing because the menu hasn 't changed in all the years they 've been in Hattingen. In contrast to some other establishments in the area, Mexx has a young vibe and is frequented by packs of students. Waiting staff are also young and friendly but not always particularly well-trained or competent. My main complaint about Mexx is that they seem to be continuously understaffed and, when the place is busy, it can take an absolute age to get served. Food is a particular problem in this regard and this is not the place for a quick snack. Lunch in under an hour is pushing it. In warmer weather the seats outside and across the way from Mexx are very popular but we 've gotten up and left after 20 mins on more than one occasion having been ignored by waiting staff entirely.

It's a lovely cafe with different kinds of guest and a hip young waiters.. really nice place!
