We stayed at Down Hall with my family and had dinner twice at The Grill. The food was lovely (so much so that we ended up ordering the same starters the second evening, as they were delicious) and the service was impeccable. The gentleman who suggested the wines was very attentive and remembered our choices the next evening. All in all, a very pleasant experience. View all feedback.

Decided to ignore the negative reviews and give it a try for a catch-up meal with my daughter, we should have avoided as the meal was ruined by poor service. Menu was very limited. The restaurant was only a third full. The waitress seated us then completely ignored us for about 10 minutes. Had to ask if we could order our drinks, bread basket and main meals. Bread came fast but drinks took about 10 mins to arrive and the food service took about 30 mins, which is far too long. They served my daughter the wrong meal, took 10-15 mins to replace with what she had ordered by which time I had finished my meal. The waitress asked if we wanted another drink on the house, I informed her that I had already ordered a second drink about 10 mins prior and still not received it! Drinks and one main removed from the bill. Two other tables also complained while we were waiting for our meals. Food was actually a 7/10 once it arrived.
Food was well presented and taste where gorgeous, there should be more choices on the menu on Sunday evening.looking forward to our two day stay

The restaurant has a stunning ambiance. The service was excellent, and the food was really enjoyable. The only downside was that the drinks were a bit expensive. Overall, everything else was fantastic.
As for the room, we got a fantastic one overlooking the entrance, providing a lovely view. The size was larger than expected, and the thoughtful extras like a heated towel rack and bathrobes were a nice touch. Now, regarding transportation, it was straightforward. We didn’t have a car, but... 1. A short taxi ride to Sawbridgeworth Train Station cost about $13 USD each way. 2. A Day Pass for the overground/train, the underground (The Tube), and buses was around $40 USD per person per day. Transportation runs until midnight every night and was surprisingly convenient, aside from a three-hour delay one evening due to a train breakdown. To save $8 USD per taxi ride, opt for Sawbridgeworth instead of Bishop Stortford. Also, try to leave after 9:45 AM (peak time) to get cheaper Day Passes. The staff were very good overall. There were a few minor hiccups along the way, which is to be expected. At one point, a staff member told me I could use a microwave to heat up some pizza (it was 1 AM), but another staff member firmly said that microwave use was not allowed. It was a bit awkward, but I understand that the night audit can be a tough job. A note for future guests: local calls from your hotel room aren't free, which I found out during checkout, but it wasn't a big deal. I recommend getting a SIM card for your unlocked phone to stay connected.
