What User doesn't like about The Exchequer:
this visit found a bit mixed flatbread dipping starter was excellent, but the smoked salmon and economical starter was small more a canapés and the economical was tired. Pie mains were very good as the fish. it was a Saturday and with only 3. personal it was very busy. our appetizer drinks were not deleted. we didn't like to see a TV show all night. so while eating in the main was good, the total experience did not f... £10 for a salmon starter so small I could have eaten it in 2 bits, club sandwich on stale brot (the apology was that it was the first from the kitchen this day was quite lame.) our bill was significantly reduced but nevertheless. very disappointed. we were also charged for the service! eating in other tables around us looked nice, so maybe we were just very unhappy. another question that I have to ask is that, although the venue itself is very attractive, the damentoilets are absolutely revolting. they smell terrible, it does not look too tight, they are absolutely disgusting.
Enjoyed our visit. Service was friendly and on the ball. Food was decent, a varied choice and well made. I couldn't pick a fault would recommend!
We stopped off here after dropping our son at Gatwick today. We didn’t book and luckily got offered a snug table which was perfect for us both. Ordered roast dinners and they were superb… service was great, atmosphere good. My only gripe would of been...to have the cauliflower cheese included but hey, can’t win them all!
When you order a sandwich on toasted sourdough you don't expect to get the crusty end of the loaf which was hard. It looked more like half a ciabatta roll. Having a few measly pieces of salmon on the top made it very poor quality...and value for money. My pulled pork roll at nearly £10 was also poor with a limited amount of pulled pork in a burger roll and a token bit of salad. The waiter was defensive about the sourdough and not interested in our feedback. Won't go again.
Since last time I visited the Exchequer the food has improved very much: better quality, size of portions and service. I will surely visit this establishment again.
