The Barley Mow made us very welcome for lunch and deserves to grow its reputation as a well run friendly pub that serves amongst others London Pride, Doombar and Brakspear. The appetizing menu had plenty of choice, many ingredients are from local suppliers, and I particularly enjoyed their popular 3 sausages with mash, peas and gravy, followed by an indulgent Eaton mess. There is nothing pretentious about this place,... View all feedback.
Good service at lunch today, I had a chicken, pesto and mozzarella baguette which was delicious. Nicely presented with salad, coleslaw and tortilla chips. Be prepared if going as a group as I believe there is a 10% surcharge
The restaurant has Old Rosie cider available on tap, but you may need to ask for it as it's not prominently displayed. The quality of the food is good and the garden area is lovely and secluded, especially on sunny days. However, it's important to note that the restaurant doesn't open until late afternoon, so we found ourselves having to leave and return multiple times before being able to dine there.
Arriving at the pub late afternoon on a wet and cod day after a walk around Dogmersfield we were met with a very warm welcome, although the kitchen was due to close we were invited to order lunch as the staff were happy to stay on and prepare it for us. The food was delicious, the service was excellent and the pub delightful.
Popped by for lunch with parents this week and disappointed with our lunch as having read that dogs were not allowed in conservatory we opted to sit there. Twice the pub 's dog came in and interfered with our lunch to which staff member or maybe owner said to dog "you know you are not allowed in here ! ' Something out of Fawlty towers!!! As someone scared of dogs I was not very impressed with dog being near my food and food (curry of day) also mediocre so clearly we won 't be returning . A shame as you have a super canal walk across the road .
We went to this venue after a walk along the Basingstoke Canal. As there were 12 of us we did reserve a table. There was a good choice on the menu and as one of us is gluten intolerant it was good to see a choice of gluten free meals. The restaurant was not busy but they were ready for us and the service was friendly and efficient. The food was very tasty well presented and a good portion size. Would definitely return.
