Spread Eagle Tavern Inn - Hanoverton
Spread Eagle Tavern Inn
Description
Set inside a storied inn, the tavern charms with dark, moody rooms, brick tunnels and festive seasonal décor. Diners praise imaginative menus, standout entrees and attentive service, making it a romantic, must-stop destination. The inn’s multiple dining areas, cozy courtyard and basement create memorable evenings; complimentary breakfast rounds out stays. Caveats include occasional uneven execution—overcooked or bland dishes—and dated guest rooms in need of renovation, plus sporadic trouble accommodating large tour groups. Overall, a historic, atmospheric spot worth visiting.

Swiss Steak was way overcooked. Potatoes tasted like instant, no flavor. The pork tenderloin was not tender like it should have been. I was part of a group on a tour bus and they told our bus driver the kitchen was too busy to make him something to eat. Our seniors had to go to downstairs because they seated a group of politicians in a room leading to the main floor restroom. How rude. Definitely not well thought out planning. I will never return to Spread Eagle Tavern.
The Inn is filled with dining areas, and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring, including the intriguing brick tunnels in the basement that were once part of the Underground Railroad, the cozy courtyard, and even managed to peek into another room that was open. Dinner was delightful, and breakfast the next morning was complimentary and equally satisfying—don't miss out on the Candied Bacon! We had an amazing time, and the staff truly made our trip unforgettable. We will definitely return!
Excellent food and service but we were very disappointed in the accommodations. We stayed in the Madison room and ended up leaving at midnight. Bed was extremely uncomfortable and was missing part of the footboard. The rooms are in dire need of an upgrade.
