Beaver and Bulldog - Hamilton

I had some time to spare while my girlfriend was taking an exam and I was feeling pretty hungry. My overall impressions were: the restaurant was a nice, clean place with friendly and attentive staff.

Last night I decided to use the groupon I had purchased for this restaurant. As it was a Monday it was not very busy and we were greeted as soon as we entered the restaurant and seated at one of the side booths. After perusing the drink menu I ordered a glass of wine and my son a draft from the selection the server rhymed off. There was some good choices available. After looking through the menus we decided to order an appetizer and followed by an entree each. The appetizer we ordered was the buffalo chicken fries...and these came within 5 minutes of ordering. They are accompanied by a dipping sauce. We really enjoyed these " fries ". As an entree I ordered the 2 piece fish and chips and my son...the Canadian burger. Both came just a few minutes after we finished our appetizer. The fish was nicely battered and the fries nice and hot .and this restaurant , unlike many I have eaten at , did not overload us with fries .it was a perfect amount. The Canadian burger was a hit with my son...he was unable to finish the fries as the burger was very filling. I took home some fries as well as one of the pieces of fish. The restaurant is very clean and nicely decorated. The server was friendly and efficient . We both had no complaints...other than the fact that I did not really like the wine I chose...but that is an individual taste issue. The prices are in line with most other restaurants of this type.

When we arrived at the restaurant it was fairly busy. We stood at the sign to be seated for over 15 minutes before we were even acknowledged. We were told we could go on the list and it would be 30 minutes, even though we saw empty tables. We said we would go for a short walk and come back. We came back 10 minutes later and the restaurant was over half empty but all those tables were dirty. Again we weren't acknowledged. Other groups came in and we waited at the front. It was 20 more minutes until a server came over and tried to seat a table that arrived after us first. If we had not already purchased a coupon we would have left right away.Once seated the service didn't improve. The bartender was too busy complaining about the staff and how busy it was to fill our drink orders. There were dirty dishes all over the restaurant that noone was clearing out. The bartender didn't have her hair up and was constantly running her fingers through it and then touching food plates or drinks. Our server told us the food was ready and she was going to get it but then decided to do other tasks instead. By the time the sandwich came out to us it had been sitting under the heat lamp for so long the lettuce was cooked.It was incredibly slow and the food was only OK. The restaurant was a complete mess. I will never return!

When we approached the entrance there were 3 planters by the doorway that were filled with dead grass and weeds. I ordered the wings and a caesar salad. The wings were okay but the salad was a disgusting mess. Way too much dressing which made everything soggy. Our server NEVER smiled. This place also needs a complete renovation.

Took advantage of a Groupon deal. Having never been here before, we weren't sure what to expect, but the menu is extensive with lots of choices
