We got some gift certificates to try the restaurant and actually loved the experience - it's small, intimate and you have access to the owner who's a cool and inviting kind of guy. Our server was quite attentive. I had a really tasty dirty martini and my boyfriend thoroughly enjoyed his steak. We're going back for more! View all feedback.
What Alysha Runolfsson doesn't like about Bar on Locke:
We sat down for a casual lunch in what looks like a very trendy retro restaurant. The service was OK, the prices were average, but both of our meals appeared to be reheated from leftovers they had a day or two earlier. Since we were short on time, we just moved the food around on our plates and wrote it off as a bad experience. Maybe it was just a bad day in the kitchen, but we're not returning. Bar on Locke has great food and one of the best servers around (Shawn). If you like crab cakes, you won't find any better. Even though it's listed as an appetizer, 3 good size crab cakes (with a fantastic sauce) and a side salad, makes a great lunch.
Our thing is to go out for lunch on weekends. Rarely do we do dinner. Unfortunately a lot of restaurants are either not open for weekend lunch or they serve brunch (expensive eggs). This is one of our 'go to's' for a good meal, great service and atmosphere. We like the table in the front, open to the street in warm weather. They have apps, sandwiches, entrees and desserts along with daily specials. We can get a quality meal with either craft beer or reasonably priced global wines. We like the baked brie (comes with salad and could serve as a meal) and know that they do their own smoked meat so it's fresh and tasty. I have yet to have something that I did not like. We would have no issues speaking up if there was a problem, though have yet to run into a problem. We come here when we just want a good quality meal!
We were visiting Locke Street today and decided to get some lunch. All of the other restaurants seemed to be quite busy, yet, there was no one in this fine establishment. So in we went. We were quickly followed by quite a few others who seemed to be regulars. We now know why.My Mom had the Fish and Chip special. Two huge pieces of haddock, she subbed mashed for the chips and it came with a beautiful arugula salad, beautifully dressed in a fig vinaigrette. The plate was huge! and delicious and all for only $20.I went for the pasta special, linguine in a creamy tarragon and parmigiana sauce and very tender chicken. Delicious. A 12oz glass of Black Oak Ale and the best cup of tea. Bridget the server was amazing. She was the lone server and managed to provide personalized and efficient service to what became a very busy space in a very short time. We all seemed to arrive at once. Can't wait to go back and strongly recommend.
I came here as a party of five - if there are that many of you, I would call ahead. Our server was lovely and had a great sense of humour. There is a good selection of beer (and since it was the first steaming hot day in May, beer was called for!). We all had a sandwich, and the food was universally good (the sweet potato fries were a little dried out). Dessert was yummy too (brownie with ice cream). I loved the atmosphere. Parking tip!!!! There is a lot in behind that you can access through an alley just north of the Starbucks.
I guess the name "Ray's Place" was already taken? No matter Ray and his crew will provide you with one of the nicest meals and environment that you'll come across. Always interesting specials - consistently excellent food and of course..Ray.
