the food and the service were very good. we had a table reserved and sat on the access to the kitchen and the toilets. we found this very unhappy, as in the front area of the restaurants tables were free. at the next reservation we will insist on a table in the front area of the restaurant View all feedback.
What Heidrun Schmitt doesn't like about Zala Restaurant Wandsbek:
it was very tasty, only unfortunately I find it a pity that it has become so expensive and the odour is very intense in the restaurant. but there is a court tikka (believe I mean) freshly roasted and the whole restaurant is evaporated so that they get fresh air. but otherwise we liked the stay. We tried this restaurant for this new year eve dinner. The ambience of the restaurant is really nice, has a different feel to it. The staff is friendly and makes you feel comfortable. Food was served real hot and the dishes though were not really Indian, but were still tasty. I would really recommend the 'aloo pakora ', it was very good! The main course was also good though palak paneer was a little bland, maybe because of a set menu for the new year eve. The other two dishes were tasty, although the only downside they had too much of broccoli which we are not a fan of! : Raita was good as well. I must mention that the quantities of the dishes and rice were generous even with a set menu. Overall it was a fine evening at Zala, although to people who are looking for some real and spicy Indian food, please keep your expectations under check if you are visiting Zala and I hope you would not be disappointed!
Just arriving in Hamburg and on our way to the hotel, we passed Zala and ended up having dinner there. The welcome was friendly but the service after that not so much. I ate the lamb madras which I have to admit was very good, even though it was mild. When the bill came, I was shocked by how much they were charging for a bottle of water. Also one of the bottles came to the table open which for me was suspicious, and then we got charged for 3 bottles instead of 2... When we told the waiter he just pulled 5 Euros out of his pouch and demanded that we give him back the change which was 10 cents. With that kind of behaviour, the tasty lamb madras isn't worth the agony.
Not being an expert on Indian food we decided on Sunday Lunch time to try out this restaurant. It was early and the place was empty but we greeted warmly offered a choice of tables. We took a gamble and ordered a set course for two and a salad for our daughter. Each course was explained to us and all were very nice. The desert was also very good and we even got an extra portion for our daughter who had not ordered the set menu, this was a nice touch. There was so much food that we could not eat it all and ask if we could take it with us. This was no problem and the food was sealed and handed to us. Overal we enjoyed our visit, the staff were pleasant and the food, from what we know about Indian food, was very good. It made a nice change for our Sunday lunch. Would I go again, yes I would, but Indian is not something I could eat every weekend.
The weekend we were here as a family of food. Friendly service and super delicious food. the Aloo Pakora gave it to me as an appetizer. Then I had the Lamb Muglai as the main court. Both ordered dishes have tasted excellent! The fillet has super combined with the Cashew yogurt sauce. For the first time I thought that the portions were quite small (because the part looked small), but at dinner I realized that it only perceived my hungry eye differently and I even had to stand a few more. For me, the price in the Zala is great. When I'm back in Hamburg, I definitely come back to dinner!
Our ancestors in hamburg. beautiful environment, friendly service, plentiful selection of food and the prices are appropriate. everything we have eaten there so far was served hot and very well tasted.
