The reviews for the Lysander reflect a wide range of experiences, from frustrating caravan site management to exceptional customer service and delicious meals at the pub. The caravan site received complaints about poor service, rude management, and lack of hot water. However, the pub itself was praised for its friendly staff, efficient service, and excellent food, especially during special events like steak night. Visitors recommend the Sunday carvery and special meal deals, highlighting the friendly atmosphere, good quality food, and value for money. Avoid Caravan site. The service attitude is terrible with chaotic and awful management of the caravan park. I called ahead to confirm our pitch for our 7.5m caravan, but once we arrived, it was clear that the car wouldn't fit in the pitch. The electrics from the pillar point weren't working and the manager from the bar was vague about fixing it in a timely manner. We were told we couldn't change pitches because they were all booked. After waiting for 90 minutes, another manager arrived and suggested we run our hook up wire across the road to another pitch. After a series of disconnections and reconnections of four vans, I went to take a shower at 6 pm only to find there was no hot water. The manager on duty couldn't help and said that another manager would come see me at 9 am the next day. The second manager arrived late and claimed the water was working fine now, but I was already frustrated by the lack of hot water the night before. After discussing the issues, he offered to refund one day's stay if we left. There are much better sites with park and ride options from all corners of York. We will not be returning.

I’ve read some of the recent quite negative reviews and can only say that this doesn’t reflect my experience this week. I stayed on the adjoining touring site with my wife for two nights and visited the pub on both nights. The first was just a quick drink in the excellent beer garden and the second night was the weekly “steak night”, where we dined on one of the best meals I’ve had for some time and at excellent value. I couldn’t fault any of the staff, some of whom have previously received less than positive reviews, which in my experience appear unfounded. We will definitely be visiting again.

After visiting the pub several times and spending money there frequently, I am feeling very upset and frustrated after my latest visit. After sitting in the beer garden for a few hours, my party requested a bowl of roast potatoes. Despite knowing that they were only served until 3pm, we asked three different bar staff if we could still order them at 2:45. We were willing to pay any price for them. Unfortunately, all three staff members came back to inform us that the manager had refused to sell them to us. The staff seemed embarrassed by the situation. The general manager was quite impolite. We later observed the food being thrown away in the kitchen at 3pm, which was disappointing to see after we had been spending money at the pub from 1pm to 5pm. It is a letdown.

The staff at this restaurant are incredibly unfriendly and should try to be more welcoming. I do not recommend dining here as the owners are awful.

Booked here for a Sunday lunch. Upon arrival with my sunflower lanyard visible, I was immediately greeted with “mask” I said I had my lanyard on as I was medically exempt. My partner was wearing a mask, I explained to the very very rude “manager” that I was exempt medically and that means I don’t have to wear one, for medical reasons I do not need to explain!! He said he can make the rules up as he pleases and refused to let me in. I was so humiliated and mortified!! I certainly understand that there is a pandemic right now, but I am a pub manager myself and we certainly are NOT allowed to make our own rules up or make anyone feel ashamed for not wearing a mask!! Nor is it a legal requirement if medically exempt?? He explained his reasoning as someone could cough over my table and I could catch COVID!! I wouldn’t be wearing it at my table anyway?? Makes no sense whatsoever. In a time that is already very stressful and difficult, why make it any harder then it needs to be?
