Ayton's Fish And Chips - Hambleton
Ayton's Fish And Chips
Description
Great Ayton's traditional fish and chip shop boasts a fluctuating reputation among its patrons. While many have praised the restaurant for its generous portions of fresh, perfectly cooked fish and chips, recent experiences indicate a decline in quality, with complaints about soggy, overcooked chips and inconsistent fish portions. Service has also garnered mixed reviews, with some diners reporting unfriendly staff. However, for those willing to overlook the occasional setback, the nostalgic flavors and value for money keep many returning. Overall, this fish and chip shop remains a beloved fixture in the community, though it currently faces challenges worth addressing.

Excellent fish and chips. I don't even live in Great Ayton but it's worth the trip. Highly recommended
Living down on the south coast, you would assume the fish and chips, would be some of the best around?Sadly not. When my partner and I visit her mother in great Ayton, the first meal on my agenda is fish and chips, with curry sauce from Aytons fish and chips. These fish and chips are by far the best They beat any I've ever eaten, hands down. We are currently planning on relocating to great Ayton and I can't wait A slower pace of life, surrounded by beautiful countryside and lovely people and let's
We have been going to this fish shop for years , every week either on Friday or Saturday night. Most of the time the fish and chips were very tasty. White chip cooked to perfection and thick pieces of white cod. Sometimes slightly overcooked but overall it was good enough to make us keep coming back . Tbh we would recommend them to other people. For the last 3 weeks in a row the fish and chips have been terrible . We gave them 3 chances but unfortunately that’s it . The chip were brown soggy and tasted awful . The chips seemed to have cooked and warmed up ? Not sure if this is the case but that’s how they seemed. Where there was fish. One portion small and overcooked, the other non existent, plate of batter and limp greasy brown revolting tasting chips. The fish over cooked with a Yellow tint to it and hard around the edges I knew they were going to terrible again when I smelt them in the car. The servers have always been not friendly but I can put up with that but I am not giving them any more chances with the food. For the third week running , I am sat here feeling sick with a horrible after taste .£20 out of pocket . It makes me wonder what’s gone so wrong with Great Aytons Tradition fish and chip shop?
Fish and chips were excellent. Visited once last month and got served by a very miserable had mannered member of staff with orange spiky hair. She served me again this month when I visited and unfortunately spoilt the whole experience.
It's not very often that I write a review. Credit has to go to where it’s due. This chippy really does take some beating. In my experience you have never met a more down to earth lot. The fish that is served reminds me of the fish and chips from my youth. I highly recommend trying the curry sauce. I appreciate this place and the efforts of the people within it. Long may they and it continue to be a part of Ayton’s landscape.
