Booked for lunch mid week. Didn't need to as was quiet with only 2 3 other tables occupied. As usual service was excellent fast, efficient, and friendly without being overbearing. Always great food excellent scallops starter, and a great burger for main (if I was being pedantic, perhaps too much salad on the side. Not cheap dining, but well worth it! View all feedback.
What Waters09 doesn't like about Crathorne Arms:
It looked fantastic, but the meat was mainly fat, the Yorkshire was okay, then the rest of the plate was all jus/carrot purée/ two tiny potatoes and a tiny pot of brocolli and cauliflower cheese was shared (which was bland). Where are all the proper veggies? The purées mushed tiny portion of red cabbage on the plate just mixed in with the gravy and couldn’t be tasted. One of us had the veggie ‘cauliflour steak’ and i... We had a wonderful lunch at this restaurant. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. Our main dishes included feather blade of beef, chicken wellington, and sweet potato curry. We all enjoyed sticky toffee pudding for dessert, which was absolutely delicious.
I made a reservation here for a family Sunday lunch without reading any reviews beforehand. After seeing some of the recent feedback, I was a bit apprehensive. A business that doesn't acknowledge reviews, whether positive or negative, is not ideal. Despite this, we decided to give it a try. Two members of our group are gluten-free, and this can often be a challenge. I must say, the food was better than expected and everyone was pleased with their meals. However, they were unable to provide gluten-free Yorkshire pudding and still expected full payment. Even a store-bought option would have been preferable to nothing. It seems like the chef may be lacking motivation or skills in this area. When we inquired about it, we were told that they make everything from scratch and gluten-free Yorkshire puddings were not possible. However, they did offer gluten-free bread, which seemed inconsistent with their previous explanation. The service was a bit sluggish, and we had to go to the bar ourselves for refills on our drinks. Overall, it was not a terrible experience, but with more attention to detail, it could have been much better.
I do not recommend going for Sunday dinner at this restaurant. They are not able to accommodate dietary restrictions or children. I was very disappointed, especially since this is supposed to be a family-friendly pub. They only offer a limited selection of chicken or beef for Sunday dinner, which was not well-prepared and mostly consisted of fatty meats and cold vegetables. They should update their menu to include more options for vegetarians, vegans, and children, or they will continue to exclude younger customers.

One of us had the veggie ‘cauliflour steak’ and it was just a plate of cauliflour with some cut up grapes on top?! Also the children’s Sunday dinner was £10.95. So disappointing. Have 2 stars as the atmosphere is lovely, staff are lovely and place is cosy and inviting but the food is all fur coat and no knickers.
Family of 6 Starters were a mixed bag. Scallops where tiny I mean thumb nail size and for the price was ridiculous a whole three of them. The prawn cocktail was serve red in a scallop shell, and was minute ! Just like the scallops. The terrine was average but was vey course and difficult to palette. Mains. The lamb was under cooked and needed a lot more rendering down. It was also stone cold !! The burger was horrendous, very dry. Fishcakes could have been Great if they weren't over salted!!! Overall very very disappointed for the cost.
