Pleasant Street Diner - Halifax

The seafood was amazing. We had the clams and chips and the scallops and chips. The staff were so nice and friendly & we all enjoyed our seafood. Great desserts too!!! I would highly recommend.

I have never been quite so impressed by a diner! Here are six reasons why my dining experience today was great:1. Excellent chicken Caesar salad! It was sizeable and included all of the important ingredients. Lettuce was fresh. I had never tried a chicken Caesar with breaded chicken, but the chicken was a highly successful addition to an already great salad.2. Wonderful hot turkey sandwich. My boyfriend and I were both impressed by the tastiness of the gravy.3. Despite being an incredibly busy diner, the service was friendly and RAPID. I don't think I've ever experienced such quick service at a restaurant. 4. Seriously amazing prices. The large portions, together with the genuinely tasty and fresh food, make this a terrific-value diner. It definitely stood out above others I've visited in HRM. 5. Restaurant is actually clean.6. A gentleman (presumably the owner) came out to say hi and told my boyfriend and I to stay happy, healthy, and together. Aww.My only complaint is with the chocolate milkshake, which seems to have been made with just chocolate ice cream. This leaves a lot of potential milkshake amazingness to the imagination. Despite the ok milkshake, my boyfriend and I agreed that this was the overall best meal we've had at a diner. We will absolutely return. I would love to try the French toast!

Food was good, we were all satisfied with the taste and portions. Our server wasn't very knowledgeable. Most will tell you if there is a substitute cost for a side salad. I ordered a fish burger with a "side salad" when it came I got a full $7.50 Greek salad with garlic bread and a fish burger...who serves a piece of bread with a burger? We were a little disappointed with that. But the service was quick and food was good :)

Arrived on a Monday for Lunch. Decided on having Clams & Scallops. Although every table was occupied the meal arrived quickly. It have plenty of scallops and plenty of clams. The light breading was a tan colour which assured me the cooking oil was changed frequently. An ample amount of vinegar coleslaw came with the order. Also plenty of fries. I had a glass of ice water. Total bill was just under $20.00.

Anyone familiar with John's lunch that has been nearby for who knows how long, has certain expectations of what this diner will be like.They will not be disappointed. The place is really set up for groups of four either at booths or tables. However when we showed up as 5, a staff member quickly greeted us and obtained a small table to add to the end of ours to accommodate all five of us comfortably. We ordered fish & chips, scallops and shrimp. Fish & chips, and scallops were excellent, way above average. Our member who had the shrimp found them a little bland, but not too bad. Service was fast considering how busy they were, and our waitress was very attentive to our needs. And yes the owner did come around for a short chat to see if all was okay. In fact all staff were very friendly. There was only one negative. Bearing in mind the place was quite busy and maybe some were celebrating something, I'm not sure. But the noise level of other patrons talking loudly, almost shouting reached the point where it was uncomfortable to the ears. Yes we would go again, not too long from now, - recommended!
