We have dined here a number of times over the last two seasons and are always very happy with the quality and selections. This year the restaurant is under new ownership or management and has been nicely renovated. Parking can be an issue in this neighbourhood. This is high end quality and this is reflected in the prices. View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about Hamachi Kita:
We were in the Hydrostone area, and decided to have lunch at Hamachi Kita. The service was fine, if a little slow, and the menu looked promising. We ordered the Bento Box 3, because we both like Shrimp Tempura, and Shrimp Teriyaki, even though we weren't crazy about the sushi offerings. The tiny serving of teriyaki was fine, but the tempura was so disappointing. It should be hot and crispy, but it appeared to have be... View all feedback.
I have been a loyal customer of Hamachi since moving here in 2008. I used to drive from Eastern Passage to the Hydrostone market location specifically for sushi. My regular server, Jeremy, unfortunately is no longer employed since they underwent the management change and in my opinion that is where the problems began.......you get rid of your best employee and replace him with people who are unprofessional, have no customer service skills and just rude! I went a couple of weeks ago and ordered as per usual, for takeout. I got home, very excited to sit down to my delicious sushi supper. I opened the bag and had soya sauce everywhere as the containers had opened. Then I went to place my pieces of my special sushi plate and imagine my supreme when I saw that my order was incorrectly done! I called to advise them as to what happened and the first words out of the girls' mouth was "the soya sauce NEVER spills when I put it in the bags for other customers". She said she would talk to the manager and put me on hold. Upon her return to the call, she said she had "spoken to a colleague and they would credit me for next time I came in". I decided to give them another chance. I went back for another order not a week later (I love my Hamachi Sushi...usually) and was ignored for about 10 minutes while waiting at the new counter....the restaurant looks horrible inside since their "renovations". I understand they were busy, however, it doesn't take much to say "Hello, we will be with you in a minute". When I finally got asked what I wanted and I said I wanted to place an order for takeout and could I have a menu, I got attitude from the young server. I asked to confirm that I had my credit and was told that my name and number were not on file.....when I said it could be under my cell number, I received an eye roll in response and was asked for the number ...not there either. I ended up leaving without any food and without any intention of ever stepping foot in there again!!! I will however continue to be a customer at The Hamachi restaurant on the Waterfront as Julia, Amber, Ron, and Jewel know exactly what customer service is and while it is even more out of my way, it is worth it as I am treated as a valued customer with them. The new owners of Hamachi should really take a good look at their Young street location as they will no doubt be finding themselves closing that location along with the other three already closed if they don't improve things......on a side note, walking into the Hydrostone location to see a female server wearing big black boots with short black shorts and tights with holes all through them is not my idea of a professional restaurant...that belongs in a goth bar scene!!A very unhappy patron!!!

I used to be a regular here and it was amazing. They changed decor which is a hodge-podge of styles that don't mix. Like they are trying too hard to an upscale classy joint.there were two of us dining. We started on the patio and the server took our drink order then only brought one glass of water. then brought my beer, then brought my water. Then people started smoking, my gf is serverly allergic and started having breathing issues. So we had to go inside only to be shamed by anther server because "she doesn't like the smell either." Then she left without taking our order. Then when she came back and my gf asked about a dish she said "it's just how it's described on the menu." Thanks for the clarification? We order our food and again it comes out one at a time.I had no soy sauce on the table. Then she never checked once while we were eating. When she came to clear my plate my gf wanted her's packed up and I asked for the bill. She only brought out the doggie bag and went outside to the patio to talk to people....I had to ask another server for the bill.Honestly I haven't had such poor service in a decade. Food is amazing!Night ruined by **** poor staff
The most terrible sushi I ever had , the teriyaki beef rice I ordered was totally disaster! The food is garbage, but the service is good.

It should be hot and crispy, but it appeared to have been sitting around for a while, and it was limp and tasteless...very disappointing. There are many good sushi places in Halifax, so this will be our last visit to Hamachi Kita.
