What carrierozee doesn't like about Fries And Co:
This used to be one of the best fish restaurants in the City. We have eaten their meals for over 25 years. That ended this week. We recently ate one of the worst meals we have ever had. My dish was inedible. This is not an exaggeration. The crust was so tough it could not be cut with a steak knife. Even worse than the meal was the customer service. I reached out to the restaurant to tell them about our experience so... View all feedback.
Small but very busy place. Especially pick ups and delivery. Got there just before 5 so got a table. They have about 6-7 tables. I had the chowder and fish cakes. My daughter had a big chicken sandwich and fries...hand cut chips as the call them. Chowder was fantastic. Nice broth and full of seafood. Fish cakes nice crispy coating. My daughter really liked her chicken burger. The girls behind the counter were extremely busy so totally understand no in-meal or post meal follow up. Great little spot.
2022 UPDATE: hasn’t changed at all. A fantastic place! Original post: “My young family I love this place...it’s got the best battered fish I’ve found in Canada. We ordered the fish burgers, fries coleslaw. The food was delicious, hot with generous portions, served by friendly staff in a very timely fashion. If you like vinegar for your fries they offer both white malt on the table. Fries Co is a modest little place but is on our must haves when we come to Halifax from Ottawa.”
Two piece fist chips feeds two. Large slabs of fish. Eat in or take out. This will become our go-to fish shoppe.

My dish was inedible. This is not an exaggeration. The crust was so tough it could not be cut with a steak knife. Even worse than the meal was the customer service. I reached out to the restaurant to tell them about our experience so they would be aware. Result? Nothing! No acknowledgement, no apology, no explanation. Only think worse than bad food is bad customer service.
My wife and son picked up a family pack of fish and chips.at Fries and Co They were delivering 2 pieces of fish from the family pack to a friend who was isolating in a nearby hotel. My wife made a simple request to have two of the pieces placed in a separate package. The owner refused! He tried to justify his uncompromising position on the fact that the family pack was discounted. Cleary a non sequitur and a rationale that could only have meaning to him. When my wife returned home, I called the owner thinking that perhaps that there was some misunderstanding. There was not. He refused to listen, became quite belligerent and hung up on me twice. He could have deescalated the situation but chose not to which says a lot about his personality.I will no longer support an enterprise that demonstrates such an appalling lack of caring for its customers and the community. These are difficult times and for my part I want to support local businesses. I know they are hurting but this one will no longer be on my list. There are other establishments that deserve my patronage. If you feel the same way I do then vote with your feet.
