This used to be one of the best fish restaurants in the City. We have eaten their meals for over 25 years. That ended this week. We recently ate one of the worst meals we have ever had. My dish was inedible. This is not an exaggeration. The crust was so tough it could not be cut with a steak knife. Even worse than the meal was the customer service. I used to visit Fries and Company quite regularly in the 1980s (and for a brief period in the 1990s) as I lived on Connolly Street.
Bad takeout experience. Scallops were tasty - very good. Clams we're alright - nothing special. Fries were terrible.

We had 3 piece fish chips and a side large poutine. The fish was absolutely wonderful. Not greasy. Light. And fresh. Had a great taste. The fish was worth it. However the French fries (chips) had a “dirty” taste. Almost like they didn’t wash the potatoes enough or they even fell on the floor or something. The fries were fresh, Hand cut and had the skin still on which is why I assume they tasted dirty as they probably didn’t wash them well enough. For the poutine the gravy was very bland. I would not recommend the poutine. Also they do use real cheese curds which is a great bonus.. but the dirt taste on the fries out weighted the gravy’s taste. I’d love to see what their kitchen looks like as I imagine it’s probably not the cleanest if they can’t properly clean the potatoes. Next time we will only be ordering fish with no chips. With a name that has “fries” in it. I am disappointed by the terrible tasting fries. Fish was great but fries were not. That’s the reason for 3 stars instead of 5.
