Beautiful meal and friendly service. will come back and try more from this diverse menu. thank you.
That's the first time we went to this restaurant. eating was very good. the trüffelfries are the best I ever had! the drinks were on the pricy side, but most of the restaurants have overpriced drinks. I will be back in any case!
The second time here. the service was wonderful and the server gave some great recommendations. it was all I remembered from my first visit. especially the calamari was he read!
Located in downtown Halifax, Afrite offers a blend of culinary delights and an atmosphere that divides patrons. While the friendly head chef impresses diners with dishes like donair gnocchi and pork belly buns, service often falls short, with unfriendly staff and a lackluster ambiance tainting the experience. Portions are a common complaint, as many dishes appear overpriced for their size, which may leave guests yearning for more. Despite these drawbacks, the restaurant’s cozy vibe and rotating menu items attract a loyal crowd, making it worth a visit for those seeking something unique in the bustling local dining scene.

We started with the weekly lab special, which was a delightful pairing with a lovely flavor profile. One of us ordered the Donair gnocchi, while two others went for the Bucket of Chicken. Although the portion of the gnocchi was a bit on the smaller side, the taste was exceptional and definitely worth a try. The chicken was poached with herbs and seasoning, coated with ringolos and maple, and then fried to perfection. Honestly, I have never tasted better chicken. It was light, juicy, and tender, bursting with incredible flavor. This dish is also a must-try! Andrew himself was charming, passionate, and knowledgeable, serving us that evening instead of cooking in the kitchen. Overall, it was a fantastic dining experience (and I’m known to be quite critical), so we will definitely be returning!
On my visit, I indulged in the incredible Apple Burger Frites, which I believe could be a top contender for the best burger in the city when The Coast holds its annual ‘Best of…’ awards this year. I started with the Chicken Shawarma Salad, followed by the Sweet Potato Salt Cod Fishcake in Massaman Curry Sauce. To top it all off, I enjoyed a Tahini Truffle in Dark Chocolate with Sea Salt, accompanied by a refreshing Morris Ale from Tide House Brewing. However, there’s still so much more to discover; I didn’t even get to try the Donair Gnocchi, Cote du Boeuf, or Meze Board during this first visit.
Fantastic food and excellent service! The menu may be small, but it offers a diverse range of delicious options. The wine selection is limited, but it's well-priced. The ambiance is lovely; it's an intimate space filled with natural light and features an open kitchen. I highly recommend this place!
The ten course Syrian menu was absolutely beautiful. The service and pairings were wonderful and we were exposed to new dishes that we loved. Definitely would recommend the restaurant and the dinner.
Was in for the first time this evening with a friend who had been before...the food was absolutely delicious! i had the tofu marsala <3 ...our waitress was very friendly as well...my friend and i were offered a tahini cheesecake sampler for dessert and i am not a dessert person but oh my! it was wonderful!! thank you for a lovely meal and i will definitely recommend and be back! :

The servers were quite unfriendly, giving the impression that we weren't welcome. Meanwhile, the owner was at the bar reading aloud reviews he found online about his restaurant. The floors and bathroom were in poor condition, and overall, the place felt quite uninviting. The only highlight was the warm hospitality and friendliness of the head chef, whose food was impressive—I had the donair gnocchi, which was excellent. However, aside from that, I wouldn't recommend spending your time going to Afrite in downtown Halifax when there are so many other fantastic restaurants in the area.
Walking into this restaurant was a delightful surprise, largely thanks to our charming server, who had the most impressive moustache I've ever encountered. This iconic facial hair perfectly captured the warm and welcoming vibe of the establishment. The service was exceptional, with our moustached server radiating friendliness and attentiveness throughout our meal, making us feel like cherished guests in a close friend's home. The food was equally impressive; the appetizers, particularly the hummus with donair meat, presented a wonderful blend of flavors, while the burgers and fries served as a satisfying classic main course. The carrot cake for dessert was a highlight, providing a comforting and delicious conclusion to a truly enjoyable dining experience.
The restaurant features a beautiful interior and attentive service. Although it was a bit warm and humid inside, aFrite offered delicious food and a wonderful atmosphere.
We visited for my partner’s first time in Nova Scotia. We had the Syrian flatbread, donear gnocchi and burger. It was all well made and the serving staff were awesome. Would definitely go again. Highly recommend

This is by far my favorite breakfast stop in Halifax. The food is so fresh and tasty, the staff is super friendly and it has a very cool atmosphere. I need to check out lunch amd supper here soon. Definitely put this restaurant on your list of placesto go, you won't be disappointed.
Atmosphere was awesome, they have a great patio, and it's really beautiful inside. Food was pretty solid the truffle fries slap, but then again I've never had bad truffle fries. The burger was kinda dry and thin but toppings were good. Presentationwent hard, never had a burger served on a piece of slate before.
Stopped in for the brunch menu. We had the French toast and the everything breakfast. Both met expectations, and we full plates. The staff was engaging and helpful. Will definitely consider another visit. Portion sizes were normal.

The ambiance of this restaurant is to die for!!! The staff are like a friendly family and the food is incredible: think high class kitchy vibes. It's on my restaurant regular visits list; brunch, lunch, or supper. They can even accommodate private events with notice. LOVE LOVE LOVE! Price per person: $30–40
