When we arrived in Hakone we noticed this place, and since we hadn’t tried Soba we decided to try the next morning. There was a line already half an hour before opening, but once the doors opened it went fast. The service is fast to be able to bring in all the costumers queueing up, which is fine but not necessarily warm. The soba is great though, if a little bit on the expensive side. Nevertheless, a good meal to st... View all feedback.
What Yoshio H doesn't like about Hatsuhana Soba Honten:
The soba is good, don’t get me wrong but I think the history and fame is what makes this place so popular. I had the せいろ蕎麦, which is the soba on the site with grated Japanese yam and egg included with the broth. It was very good. The tempura soba also looked really good. I’m not sure I would wait in line again for this though. View all feedback.
We were staying nearby so we visited around 10 and it was almost full. It's all the grannies working so you can expect it to be good. There's an English menu so it's easy to order. We ordered the oyaku, tori and wild vegetable soba and each one of them was flavourful, umami rich and delicious. Special mention to the wild vegetable soba, there were fiddlehead ferns, mushroom, bamboo shoots and each one of them was naturally sweet. Totally would recommend it if you are in Hakone.
Plenty has been praised about the food in this soba restaurant founded in 1934. Vegetarian friendly. English menu available. Pro tip: queue much shorter in later afternoon. I waited only for 20mins before being seated.
We ate here lunch in November 2022 and enjoyed it. The food was yummy, the service was kind and river view from the window was lovely. Great stop for Lunch!

The soba and the tempura taste good, can feel the history of this restaurant. The staffs there do not speak English but they do have english menu. You can pay with card or cash.
