The British Chip Shop - Haddonfield

This place has been a surprise a British menu with fish and chips, vegan curry, bangers and mash you get the idea. The dishes are excellent in our experience, but you can come here for a spot (or pot if you want more) of tea and some scones with jam and clotted cream. Family friendly, it has nooks in the front on both sides for a view of people and dogs strolling down Kings Highway.

Came here with friends after seeing a news report on the place, where the reporter touted the fish and chips, and decided to try it. Very disappointing. First, there was no one to seat us when we arrived, because the hostess was in the restroom and had not arranged any backup. After being seated, the service was extremely slow. We watched several couples come in and get their food before our orders were even taken! We had to ask a server to ask our server to come over. When she did, she seemed bored and not very friendly. Our appetizer dishes were not cleared before our entrees arrived. Very poor service. That said, there was one shining bright spot to our visit, which was the tomato bisque daily soup. Outstanding flavor but the consistency was not a bisque at all. Nice bits of toasted cheese throughout. A winner. However, the potato and leek soup was bland. 3 of us got fish and chips and we were all very disappointed. Very thick batter and very greasy. We all took the batter off and ate the fish inside, which was not bad. The chips were overdone and soggy. One of us got the ploughman's lunch, which was quite tasty and well presented. We were hoping for lightly battered, crispy fish with no grease and ended up with none of that. Cannot recommend and will not return.

Met a friend for lunch hadn't been here for over a year. Ordered fish and chips for old times sake, as my husband was a Scot. Portion size cut by more than half and price the same. We used to be happy to pay $13 when there was enough take home for another meal. Dessert offerings limited to cookies which had been in the refrigerator uncovered for too long. Don't think we will be back. It was such an authentic reliable place for several years

Visited with friends on a recent Saturday in April. We all had the fish and chips which were very delicious and not too greasy. The batter wasn't heavy and the amount of fish was generous. Seating was a bit uncomfortable, with hard wooden chairs. There was only one server but thankfully, the place was not very busy. For dessert had the homemade sticky toffee pudding-to die for!!!! We would definitely return when we are in the area.

Visited the British Chip Shop with another couple for Sunday brunch/lunch. Service was great—food was good and for the most part reasonably priced but be careful when you ask for anything that isn’t priced on the menu. “Refill” on $3.50 cup of coffee was another charge of $3.50 without being told in advance—ended up being charged $14 for two cups of coffee with one refill each. Side of onion gravy with fish and chips was $6 when an order of chips with onion gravy and cheddar is only $8. Small container of honey with tea was $1 and another $1 charge for a small container of honey mustard to go with the chicken and chips. Restaurants are free to charge whatever they want but it’s only fair to let the customer know ahead of time especially if a “refill” for a cup of coffee is actually full price for a second cup or coffee.
