During my exploration of Hackney Wick last year with some friends, we stumbled upon this charming little spot called Before Dae. We stopped in for snacks and cocktails, but couldn't resist the temptation of their delicious looking cakes. However, we opted for heartier options instead. The atmosphere was relaxed and cozy, perfect for catching up with friends over drinks. We tried a few dishes, with the hummus and caul... View all feedback.
What User doesn't like about The Hackney Pearl:
I had heard great things about The Hackney Pearl, but I was extremely disappointed. I went for lunch with my partner, but unfortunately the menu resembled more of a gastro pub than a café. It was good if you were in the mood for bass or steak, but we were looking for something lighter. My partner ordered a salad (which wasn't on the starter menu, but was on my own list) and I had a bruschetta. The bruschetta was deli... View all feedback.
There's very much a cafe vibe to the place. Lots of benches for outside seating, mismatched furniture and bare walls inside, an open kitchen and tables that you imagine were salvaged from somewhere hugely in need of an overhaul. But it's charming. And welcoming. And open all day and night, so whether you're in for a lunchtime coffee or in the late night long haul like us, it's a great find. We started with a pint of Meantime London Lager for him and a fittingly feminine drink for me that involved prosecco, vodka, limoncello, basil and berries and was possibly one of the nicest concoctions I've had in a while. And of course, it'd have been rude to not look at the wine list. I chose a...read more
I admit that I originally did not want to visit the hackney pearl, I was actually looking for a toilet! However, this bar restaurant turned out to be such a hidden gem that I would recommend to keep a zider (orchards pig, my first attempt and would highly recommend) and a baked. While I didn't try the lunch menu, it looked fantastic and smells like eating that came into the tables around me. there are seating in the indoor and outdoor areas and the service was excellent. I believed in a beautiful sunny day on the hackney pearl, so sitting outside was a must.
I love this place, it's always so cooled. the menu is interesting and eating is always really delicious. the staff is very friendly and relaxed. it feels like a real home from home. highly recommended.
Four of us went on Friday night for some dinner and to catch up. The ambience and service was lovely but sadly the veggie curry which they charged £12 for was awful. Like something you'd put together as a student, complete with packet rice and shop bought naan. Worst of all was a very stody, stale and overly harshly spiced dahl, which none of the three of us touched. Really disappointing I'd be ashamed to serve it to friends at home. we did receive some free desserts when we complained about the curry to our waiter, which was appreciated. But I'd much rather not have forked out £24 in the first place for such poor food.
No effort to reserve table and evasive when trying to establish if they even bother "What about the table outside? It was raining. Watch the service charge that is put on as default. (even when they lost our booking). Pity great location and they are trying hard Still worth a shot and to be fair the service was friendly.
