We were walking and had climbed Sugar Loaf and fancied a beer so we ended up at the Red Loon which was closed. The Landlady saw us and said she was more than happy to serve us so we sat outside and had a couple of pints. Thank you so very much for doing that, it was so kind of you. View all feedback.
What Jonesthecwch doesn't like about Red Lion:
Restaurant was empty. Not surprised. Ignored by the staff. They were just chatting to each as there were no customers except us. Didn't bother sitting down. Bad atmosphere, so left. View all feedback.
We had a wonderful experience at Marion's pub, where Maz took excellent care of us. The beer was fantastic, the atmosphere was entertaining and knowledgeable. Two days later, Maz cooked us the most incredible venison stew. Be sure to make a reservation a few days in advance, as it was definitely the highlight of our trip!
Absolutely fabulous home-cooked meals, but be sure to make a reservation in advance. The owners are friendly, the prices are great, and the atmosphere is cozy like a pub.
This tiny and traditional Welsh pub has a cozy and charming atmosphere, with a wonderful landlady. The beer and food are both excellent. Due to the small size of the pub, it is recommended to make a reservation if you plan on having a meal to avoid any disappointment. During our visit with a group of 8, the landlady kindly prepared a large lasagne for everyone and a delicious vegetarian lasagne for me. It was so good that I couldn't resist having an extra portion while the others had dessert. After a long day of hiking Sugar Loaf and Skirrid, we were very hungry and this meal was the perfect way to end our day.

One of an increasingly rare breed of traditional, homely Welsh pubs. Blend of genuine landlords, great beer, well presented food, welcoming staff and local residents, super alluring location. The sort of place which welcomes back regular customers whether that custom is resumed every week or only once a year (especially for major sports or community events). Long established inns/pubs are not duty bound to impress every traveller with their gastro excellence. So, for all those visitors with bikes, dogs, special diets or other metropolitan elitist expectations who swagger in, glance around, wonder why staff don’t fawn over them, then depart without sampling the hospitality good riddance! Leave this heritage of warm Welsh hospitality for those who genuinely appreciate it and don’t treat such authenticity as some museum artefact. You’re find a welcome in the hillside of Llanbedr. Guard it with reverent care use it or lose it.
