What Jasmine Graham doesn't like about Newells Bakery:
Popped in to get a few snacks and treats. Woman serving was not very welcoming, unfortunately. Nice few sweet treats on offer but hardly any savouries. Would recommend the chocolate eclair! View all feedback.
We bought sour dough loaf and baguette which looked delicious, although I noticed the loaf was very heavy and flat. All the bread was dense and flat caused probably by high heat cooking or not being sufficiently proved. It was totally inedible and went out to the birds. Most disappointed.
Place was small. Smells and goods were delicious. Such a wide variety to choose from!!!! Staff was very friendly and knew what ingredients was in each baked treat. Will definitely visit again!!
I visited this bakery last year and their custard donuts were the best I've ever had. I couldn't wait to buy them again this year and I can confirm that my original review still holds true. This year, I also tried their lemon meringue pie and Eccles cakes and all I can say is WOW. The lemon meringue pie tastes just like my Mum used to make and the Eccles cake reminded me of Miss Thomas, who had a bakery in Ruthin (Roberts and Thomas) where I worked on Saturdays in the 60s. It's the best I've had since then, with plenty of currants in a crispy, flaky pastry. Their bread is also excellent. Thank you so much!
The excellent custard doughnuts are boxed to prevent squishing, ensuring a delicious treat with plenty of filling.
My own experience was no better. I found the selection of pastries and savory options to be lacking, but settled for what I was told were two steak bakes. I received two cold pasties and asked for them to be heated up for an additional cost. To my surprise, the assistant threw them in the microwave in the same bag they came in. When I retrieved them, they were hot, soggy, and unappetizing. One pasty had no meat inside at all. While we did not expect fine dining from a bakery, we were disappointed by the unfriendly service and unappealing food presentation. It is shocking that someone working with the public lacks even basic customer service skills. This experience was so bad that I felt compelled to write a review, something I have never done before.
