We were staying at Tamar valley apartments on our recent holiday to Tasmania, visited Grindelwald swiss village , our 3 year old dotti just loved it. The bell tower, water wheel, pirate ship & fountain fascinated her. We went to Alpenrose for lunch, the Woodfire pizza was delicious,Wedges & chips were yum. The location is fantastic near the lake. What Casandra Wolf doesn't like about Alpenrose Lakeside Bistro & Bar:
This restaurant sells knock-off Dixie brand children's cups, giving customers the false impression that they are purchasing the real thing. This unethical practice is harming children's experiences and should be rectified. View all feedback.
Just my Mum and myself today going for a Sunday drive and we decided on having lunch here and what a great choice. We both had the hamburger and WOW, so much flavour and one of the best, juiciest hamburgers I have had in quite a while and when it arrived I did think I could not eat it all, along with the hot crunchy chips but I did.The staff were lovely and we watched as they greeted everyone with a smile, well done.
Breakfast is fairly varied and good, but nighttime is very cosy and the menu fairly extensive, good size portions and all our choices were delicious. All that with great service leads to a lovely experience. We ate there 3 days morning and night, and missed it after moving on.
If you're staying in one of the chalets, as we were, I suggest you dine in town, or buy supplies to prepare for yourself. The restaurant is a draughty barn and the pizzas leave a lot to be desired.
Had a table of twelve, great efficient waitress. Meals were big, I had ribs they were good, but not yummy, got sick of them , my partner had chicken breast with prawn and garlic sauce that was nice. A couple had salmon and raved about it.So was ok but salad very boring.Pizzas looked great and so did the burgers. For a big group they did well getting it out all together. Bit pricey and not all of us happy
Visited the restaurant as it was recommend by our hostess. We didn't make a reservation as it was off season and took a chance. There wasn't much of a greeting at the host desk and there were a good amount of guests in the restaurant to give it atmosphere. Staff were pleasant enough. Service was a little slow but since we were on holiday anyway so we didn't mind taking our time. And perhaps the big group of almost 30 pax ahead of us contributed to the wait. We ordered entrees which didn't come. About 40 minutes later, we were surprised when the mains arrived, both steaks was over done as was the salmon (we were asked how we liked them cooked) and the chicken parma was burnt and rock hard. They rushed out our starter when we said that it was missed and offered another chicken parma but we declined and just sent it back. The whole situation was really awkward and it was a series of errors that it became too embarrassing to continue to say that our meals were not enjoyable at all. No sign of the manager in this situation and the staff were very stoned faced. No one checked to see if we were happy with our dinner. They dropped off the bill when we were still eating our dinner?! Anyway, they gave us a couple of beers, steak sauces and the entrée on the house. But to be honest, we would rather have a nice meal which gave respect to the beautiful Tasmanian salmon and beef it deserved. We work in hospitality and travel a bit. We probably are more critical about the service than your average Joe but for an establishment which has quite a high volume of guests all year round, the basic standard needs to improve significantly to be called a restaurant. The whole Swiss Village has a certain charm and great potential to be a fun place to stay. The restaurant just has to lift it's game to have the whole package.
