I’ve been quite disappointed with Supermercado Durango during my recent visits, as the quality seems to have dropped considerably. On my last trip, I ordered 2 pounds of skirt steak, but when I was paying, the package felt unusually light. Upon weighing it at home, I realized I was missing more than half of the amount I had paid for. I understand some loss during trimming is normal, but this was excessive. I called to address the issue and spoke with a young man who seemed uninterested and quickly shifted the blame to another employee. This isn’t the first time I’ve had a problem here. I had overlooked previous incidents, knowing mistakes can happen, but after this happened again, I’ve decided to take my business elsewhere.
I’m becoming more and more frustrated with their service. Today, November 4th, I came across some very old pico de gallo and guacamole dated October 30th. It looked completely unappetizing. I can't believe they’re not offering fresh food! This isn’t the first time either—on another occasion, they were selling brown heads of lettuce. And if you try to raise a concern, don’t bother—they really don’t seem to care.
The prices are somewhat steep, especially for their Mexican sweet bread, and they charge an additional fee for debit card payments. Nonetheless, the store is clean, the staff is friendly, and the carryout experience was pleasant.
Awful tamales—don't spend your money at this place. Head to Hammond or East Chicago for better choices.
