It’s been a while since I visited Fatz, a place I used to really enjoy. Unfortunately, it has fallen into disrepair. The food is average at best, and the service is lackluster. It’s disappointing to witness a once-great restaurant decline like this. I won’t be returning anytime soon, and unless significant changes are made, it may not last much longer. It's truly sad to see.

When I arrived, there was no host or hostess to greet me at the entrance. After a wait, a young woman finally approached, but by then I had already chosen to sit at the bar. To my surprise, the bar was completely empty, save for myself and the bartender. Once seated, I received a menu and ordered a beer while pondering my meal. Sticking to my usual Friday tradition, I decided on the 10 oz. sirloin steak. I regretted this choice later. I requested my steak medium, as per my usual preference. When the bread arrived, I was disappointed to find three tiny rolls that were barely warm and oddly brown instead of the golden, freshly baked ones I remembered from previous visits. While I waited, flipping between "Suicide Squad" on TNT and the Little League World Series, I quickly finished the meager rolls. The bartender was nowhere to be found, leaving me nearly tempted to nibble on the napkins. I made the best of my beer and looked around; the place was surprisingly quiet, with only a few older patrons scattered about. Several servers milled around, yet the bartender was still absent. Eventually, my food was served, and I soon realized there was no fork on my table—a typical oversight. The servers seemed to have disappeared just as quickly. As I inspected my plate, I noticed the tater tots looked appetizing, but the steak was another story—it was overcooked despite my request for medium, adorned with grill marks that looked messily applied, and it was dry. Once I managed to catch someone's attention, I received my fork and began to eat. The tater tots were as good as they appeared, and while the broccoli wasn’t terrible, it was rather unremarkable—most likely microwaved. I wouldn't be surprised if the steak had been, too. Finally, about the steak—it was every bit as dry as I had feared. I’ve genuinely had better steaks at IHOP. After such a long wait for my meal, I didn’t bother to raise the issue with the staff, especially since they were busy attending to the other four customers in the restaurant. So, I committed what I consider a culinary sin: I squirted ketchup onto my plate just to get through that dry disappointment. I don't believe in steak sauce, let alone ketchup with steak. A well-cooked steak should stand on its own. Anyone who feels the need for steak sauce either lacks taste or is a child, and if steak sauce is required, it’s clear someone messed up. Though I’m not a steak connoisseur, I know enough to critique one properly. So, I choked down the dry, overcooked, ketchup-smeared steak and settled my bill, eager to leave as quickly as possible. I will mention that my server was friendly, but if the restaurant had been busy and understaffed, I might have been more lenient. However, it seemed overstaffed and certainly not busy enough to justify the bartender being pulled away from the bar. I can't call Fatz a bad place, nor would I advise anyone to entirely avoid it. Just steer clear of the steak if you decide to go. The Easley location closed not long ago, and I fear that if there isn’t significant improvement here, this location might close as well. That would leave only the one in Gaffney, which is too far for me. I'll give them a few months, and if they’re still around, I may consider giving them another chance. Thanks for reading!

Overall, our experience was enjoyable. My partner and I visited for lunch on a Monday, and the restaurant was quite empty. We were seated right away, and our food was served promptly. However, when I returned to my seat and glanced up at the ceiling tiles above our booth, I noticed they were stained with black mold. When I mentioned this to the waitress, she said there was unfortunately nothing she could do about it. I appreciated her honesty, but I was taken aback that they were aware of the problem yet still chose to seat customers in that section.

Overall, we had a good experience at the restaurant. My wife and I went for lunch on a Monday, and it wasn't very busy. We were seated right away, and our food came out quickly. However, I was startled to notice that the ceiling tiles above our booth were covered in black mold when I leaned back in my seat. When I brought this to the waitress's attention, she responded, “Unfortunately, there’s nothing I can really do about that.” I understood she wasn't to blame, but I was surprised they were aware of the issue and still chose to seat customers there.

To make matters worse, we noticed visible black mold growing on the ceiling tiles above the front tables. Overall, it was a disappointing experience.
