Mara is a treasure. A small elegant, quiet place to have excellent coffee and the delicious cakes, tarts and biscuits, all hand made by one of the owners. She has a gift for baking. It is a marvel how she turns out delicacies from the tiny spotless kitchen space next to the coffee machines, all within your view. You won't be disappointed. View all feedback.

I have been coming here on and off over the last few years for coffee and cake. My last visit was disappointing as my cake came on a chipped plate which I didn’t think was acceptable. Apart from us there was only one other table occupied, so I may be a little bit more understanding if they were busy. I noticed this gem while driving and told my friend that we were constantly looking for a convenient place to meet to catch up with Beckingham and Woolwich.We met regularly in Blackheath Village, but this year, 2018, we decided to meet at the Royal Standard, Blackheath.To the back of the store, we asked for herbal tea and coffee. I saw a baking tray of freshly baked meat cakes, directly from the oven. I bought one and asked, "Did you bake them yourself?" 'Yes, I did. I baked most of the cakes here. The chopped meat cake was not sweet and the pastry beautifully, scaly.The atmosphere was quiet and peaceful, but that could be because we were there on a laborable day. The service was great. Mara was clean, tidy and seats, luxurious and comfortable. Mara has beautiful interior design pieces for sale, art deco for contemporary articles. If you live or in a short break in the area of Blackheath, Greenwich, Charlton, North Greenwich or Woolwich and you want to venture to take a break for tea, this is an excellent place. I know I'll be back since I'd like to have tasted all the cakes.
Really lovely cafe. Hot chocolate delicious and the gentleman serving is always so gracious and kind. Love going there for a treat with family and friends. Thankyou.

Extremely rough waitress, definitely wouldn’t go back
I have visited this restaurant before and live nearby. One day, while walking by with my 3-year-old daughter, she said she needed to use the restroom. I tried to take her in, but they would not allow her to use the facilities unless we bought something. I don't believe this is a fair way to treat local residents or loyal customers. Due to this experience and the high prices, I will not be returning to this restaurant.
