Austin house has nice clean, comfortable atmosphere with local antique decor. The food is awesome. Recipes are just enough different from common to be unique in a delicious way. Desserts are like a little slice of something heavenly. They’re all homemade and there’s always a variety, in addition to the various selections of hard scoop ice cream that’s available. Yep, this is one of our favorite places to eat. Prices are reasonable. Considering how far they are away from food supplies, it’s amazing how low the prices are. Service is great and usually done with a smile, even on hectic days. Their catering is also some of the best this side of Boise.
We took a drive from Fruitland Idaho, stopped for a quick bite was not disappointed.
If you’re traveling between John Day and Ontario, Oregon this is a no-brainer. The new owners have done a nice job and the food is fantastic. We had shakes one evening and mine had real huckleberries. The next morning we had breakfast and it was great as well. For sure a stop for us whenever we are in the area!
Adorable cafe and was so glad we found this gem on our travels. We stopped for dessert and got fudge and huckleberry pie. They were warmed for us and served with ice cream. I mean, to die for. If you're looking for homemade treats in a a friendly atmosphere, this is the place! They all serve regular lunch and dinner items, although we went for the sweets. It all looked delish. Decor was fantastic, bathrooms were clean and loved the old timey furniture and set up. Want to come back!
Despite stating the cafe was open on their website, the cafe is closed Tuesdays a d Wednesdays In response to the owners comments: When I planned my trip thru the area with a stop at Austin House for lunch, Google Maps said the restaurant was open on Tuesdays Wednesdays. If you don't agree, I printed the hours. If you have an issue with incorrect info, please take that up with Google. We'll try again next time we're in the area.
