Nestled on the ground floor of Ballantynes department store is the spacious and light Kin. There's a full menu with breakfast/lunch items and it functions as a quick stop kind of place too, serving delicious coffee and cabinet food. Service was really good, the kitchen staff were nice too and you can see them prepare various dishes too, as part of their workspace is exposed to the dining area. When you're seated, you... What Rafa Loves Travel doesn't like about Kin:
Food were ok, coffee is good. Quiet environment, spacious space, high ceiling. Very good place to catch up with friends. Because it is in a corner within the store, there is enough space for some privacy to avoid the main shopping traffic. Staffing level was adequate but orders and services were really slow. Slow to take order, slow to serve, slow to clean up. Hence the two stars. View all feedback.
Great food. We loved our lunch so much on day one we went back to try more dishes the next day. Still thinking about the crunchy cauliflower! Can't wait for next jaunt to town so I can try ask the other dishes I was tempted by. Efficient staff. Good timings. Relaxed atmosphere. Excellent experience. Meal type: Lunch Price per person: NZ$20–30
Food and coffee are okay. Nice and cozy atmosphere. Staff are friendly.
Popped into Kin with my other half for a bistro lunch to celebrate my birthday. I had the salmon with edememe beans and wasabi: a total winner. He had the fish (Gurnard) and chips and was delighted with his meal. The wine glass had no line and was slightly on the skimpy side but the Catalina sauvignon was well chilled and went down extremely well with my fish. The service could not be faulted: speedy, professional and polite. We will certainly return on our next trip to town. Highly recommended oh and did I mention the price was very reasonable? $28 for the samon meal was a steal. Ambience (all white and marble) slightly clinical softened by lovely fresh flowers. All in all an absolute treat.
We had been seated and left, so asked for a waitress, she came over and said oh, I hear you 're ready to order and we 're taking too long Obviously this was passed onto other staff as the condescending manner of them all, left a lot to be desired. Lovely meal with exceptional staff. Only downside was the bright hot sun coming through glass ceiling. Service: Dine in Meal type: Lunch Price per person: NZ$20–30 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
