Feedback
Reviews praise Ruddy's Fish Chips for golden fish, fluffy chips and friendly staff; a few note occasional inconsistencies in quality — popular and often busy.
Takeaway only Love the fish and chip shop. Always fresh and cooked to order. Not the cheapest fish and chips but good value for money
Impressed with the shop, decor cleanliness, pleasant staff, fish perfect nice crunch to the batter amazing chips, felt like they could even be healthy as no fat dripping off don’t tell my slimming group thank you !!!
The restaurant is good, but the prices listed on the website are not accurate. The website stated that a small order of chips costs $2.00 and a large order costs $3.50, but in the restaurant, a regular portion costs $3.30 and a large costs $4.00. I rode my bike 5 miles to get there with the last of my money, only to leave when I found out the prices were incorrect.
If you want warm overcooked dry chips go on a Friday lunch time.. very disappointed to have chips that have been sat there for half an hour or so because they couldn't be bothered to cook some fresh ones. Giant Haddock, well dread to think what a small one looked like...even gave me a full sugar Pepsi and I ordered a sugar free Pepsi max...You guys need to buck up your ideas of customer service, otherwise I'll be having a Chinese next time!!!!!!!!
The fat man from Middlesbrough was becoming weary of being the fat man from Middlesbrough. On 6th of January, 2025, he decided to become the not as fat as he used to be man from Middlesbrough. In order to achieve this, deep fried food became taboo. It helped that there wasn 't a decent fish and chip shop within walking distance from the thinner man 's abode. Whilst visiting friends in Gloucester some eleven months later I thought it time to treat myself. I went to Ruddys and ordered cod and chips. It may be due to the rarity of the meal but it was thoroughly enjoyable. The cod was white and flakey, covered in crispy batter. The chips were also crisp on the outside and fluffy in the centre, a generous portion of each. I 've been to Ruddys prior to today. On that occasion I had some curry sauce, the flavour of that sauce was not the best, it lost this otherwise good friery that precious fifth star. Friendly staff adorned in special fish hats. I 'd also like to reminisce about times before the advent of health and safety madness. A portion of food from 'the chippy ' would be placed on a sheet of greaseproof paper then wrapped in three or four pages of last week 's Sunday broadsheet. Those days are apparently gone, let 's stick it all in a custom made cardboard box (deep sigh). I may well return at some point in the future.

Ruddy's in this area sits among a small local chain — customers often compare the Longlevens/Old Cheltenham Road location with the Hucclecote branch and many locals say the Longlevens shop ranks higher since a tasteful makeover. Regulars tend to treat Fridays and weekend evenings as ‘Ruddy’s night’, so you’ll spot familiar faces and seasoned staff rhythms if you visit then.
