The best place to buy fresh fish in Durban. I would go so far as to say the only place if you want flavour, quality, and to know how and where your fish was caught. I am on their Whatsapp list and the Bartho brothers, who catch and source the fish, send out regular messages to say what they've caught, what's in stock... They bring in oysters from Knysna too. I live a distance from them so when I go there, I buy a few... View all feedback.
This is the cleanest fish shop you will find. If you closed your eyes you would not think that it is one. So well sanatized and neatly packed makes for an easy shopping experience. Also the lovely lady is so so helpful and has great advice regarding the different types of seafood. I was skeptical as to buying a cleaned and deveined prawn as they are sometimes tough, she assured me how well they cook and told me to bring them back of I'm not happy as she was so sure and I cooked them and they were absolutely tender. I don't think I've tried anything I didn't like. From the calamari tubes(tastes like restaurant quality by the way), prawns, crayfish, soles, langos. All amazing
For a year now, I've danced with joy at the fishy wonders that Barthos bestows upon my top-notch restaurant in Durban. Oh, the array of fresh fish that tickle my taste buds and make my customers swoon! Never have I met disappointment on my fishy journey, for Barthos knows how to deliver quality and service like few other in KZN. I have a theory, my dear friend, that the owners of Barthos are the true heroes of the sea. When they're not meticulously handling orders with their team, they're out there on the fishing boats, battling the waves and reeling in the catch with probably) their bare hands. Hardcore, I tell you! No wonder their fish are so fresh and fabulous. Now, let me share a little secret with you. I don't get any fancy discounts for my bulk purchases. Nope! I pay retail, just like any other fish-loving soul. Whether I'm indulging in a piece of tantalising tuna or going all out for the whole catch, the price remains the same. But let me assure you, my friend, it's worth every penny. Barthos never fails to impress. So, if you're a fish fanatic like me, don't deny yourself the pleasure any longer. Make your way to their store in Durban North and let the fishy wonders of Barthos transport you to a world of flavour and delight. Trust me, you won't be disappointed.

I live a distance from them so when I go there, I buy a few meals worth, try different kinds, take it home and freeze what I won't eat that day. I expect because of the way it is caught and fileted and deboned and packed and its freshness, it tastes as fresh as never-frozen when I defrost it to eat. Gratitude!
Bartho's whatsapp group lets you know what fresh fish is available and when they have fresh oysters in stock. Small but excellent quality fresh and frozen seafood selection. Love the frozen curry sauce. Their sushi is always fresh and super affordable.
Freshest fish in town. Top quality which will tantalize your taste buds, pamper your palates and give you a gastronomical experience. The shop is maintained in pristine condition at all times. We are spoiled for the diversity we can choose from : slinger, englishmen, tuna, hake, mackerel, salmon, cracker ,etc. We are give notice on whatsapp as soon as a catch arrives at the shop. Meticulous preparation while you wait. When cooking the aroma comes waftingly along stimulatingt the olfactory cells and gastric juices. If you want Something Fishy that is vicious delicious Barthos is the place to get it.
