Was Dan Florentin at Sozai a mag?
Still just as great as I remember it. There aren't many Japanese restaurants I've been to that serve sushi and sashimi as fresh and perfect as Sozai. Very consistent and delicious plus lovely staff make this place an all-time favourite. View all feedback.

What Katlynn Rodriguez dislikes about Sozai:
Went to Sozai in October 2015 - had a fantastic meal with high quality service and produce (see my earlier review). From then til my 2nd experience last week - something has changed. The sushi and sashmi were inconsistently cut and shaped - not a standard a sushi chef would accept (or a customer). The inside-out rolls were poorly formed - and when we questioned why we were informed the chef must be in a rush!. The mi... View all feedback.

As something regular at sozai, I am sad to write a negative review, but not sure what is going on in the kitchen, but the meal we got was strict 2. guess from what was earlier a 1st guess place. agedashi tofu was bland, coating on tofu not resemble earlier delicacies, spicy thunfish roll was without a spicy until the point that it tasted like the others and we 're badly cut, personal at the door was completely out. I could go on, but I'm sure someone reads that that gist gets. the people with whom we shared our meal times, which are more regular, were also dissapointed please sozai management back to their previous excellent.

Nice and clean little food. we discovered it when we had a drink at the bar next door, so we decided to dip for something to eat. it is unusual that a Japanese restaurant has numerous vegetarian options, so a pleasant surprise was. the courts were well executed. nothing imaginative but good standard. my favorite was the praised Tempura court. agedashi was a bit common, as it was missing the Bonoto flakes above.

Chill and low key spot for a classic Japanese meal. All the staples are done pretty well. Fish is fresh and local, presentation is crisp. Generous portions and a convivial local feel.

Cosy spot on the main road. The karaage chicken while plentiful in size did not have the same level of flavour compared to other Japanese restaurants.Sashimi was definitely on point, very fresh and tasty, especially the tuna.Spicy tempura prawn rolls are a must-have.Good time to go is around 2-3pm if you want quiet dining.

Came to this small cozy Japanese restaurant on High street and had a nice ambience as soon as we walked in.

Sozai is a suburban Japanese restaurant that has been a favorite for many customers over the years. However, recent reviews suggest that the quality and consistency of the food and service have been declining. Some customers have noted issues with the preparation of dishes and changes in the menu. While some still enjoy the food, others have been disappointed by their experiences. The staff is described as friendly but untrained. Despite these drawbacks, some customers still find Sozai to be a quiet gem with fresh food and good value for money. Overall, opinions on Sozai are mixed, with some long-time customers feeling let down by recent changes, while others continue to enjoy their meals there.

Sozai serves up great quality Japanese fare with polite service albeit for a price. Although, it's in Armadale, so no surprises there. <br/ <br/ The sashimi is always fresh. Their signature dishes like the agadashi tofu, tempura and udon do not disappoint. The gyoza is somewhat unorthodox in shape and texture but still offers great taste. The wafu salad is refreshing and healthy. <br/ <br/ Will be back to try their desserts!

Amazing sushi and sashimi! Absolutely love coming here with my friends for a casual night out. Everything is delicious, although slightly pricey it is worth the cost

My family have been coming to Sozai since it first opened. Throughout the years, the food quality and standards have always been consistently high. All the sushi chefs have a minimum of 3 5 years experience in making sushi, and when it's not peak hour are more than happy to answer any questions I may have for them. Absolutely recommend for sushi fans the fish is always market fresh and use the most appropriate types for sashimi. Their miso soup is outstanding and we have always enjoyed the Miso Eggplant and their Teriyaki Chicken/Beef/Salmon. One of my favourites in the inner south east without a doubt!

An established good suburban Japanesse. This used to be the premier Japanese in The Malvern and surrounding suburbs and has moved back to just an average for the area. I have been eating here for over 15 years. <br/ <br/ Visited Sozai on Monday night. For starter had the edamame. It was served warm, but I prefer a bit hotter. Then had the Wafu salad which was good and then had the miso soup. Both were served ok. <br/ <br/ My friend had a soda lime and bitters and it tasted too sweet. It was average. I would have suggested soda water, fresh lime and then a splash of bitters. The one served looked like a concoction my 8 year old made up. <br/ <br/ We then had spicy salmon maki and spicy tuna maki. Both were presented well and tasted average to OK. We then had a salmon and tuna sashimi and sushi and shared this. That dish was ok. <br/ <br/ The staff here are not well trained and I think the previous staff were friendlier. They tried to jam all these plates on the table and then look at me strange when they can't fit it on. <br/ <br/ The Sozai restaurant is showing its age and like any other good establishment the restaurant needs a lick of paint, better trained staff and more<br/ Importantly just a little more love and passion back into the food.

Fresh sashimi and wonderful eggplant with sauce. Teriyaki with chicken, salmon and beef, but chicken's is the best one. Nice staff and traditional japanese sushi bar.

There were just two of us for a very early dinner The Sushi is always very fresh and delicious the best cuts I always have the Nasu Dengaku Eggplant baked with Miso. Also the Tofu fried in a sauce as it is really good I also had some cones which are hand rolls in the shape of a cone . These are also delicious with extra fish flake and sesame seeds

This used to be a fine dining restaurant, is now a noisy cafe. The food is still pretty good, but the ambience has dropped off. Even with a booking, wait five minutes while the table is cleaned up and numerous takeaway orders are sorted. People coming and going constantly with food drivers and takeaways. Our entrees came after our main course which took this rating from 3 to 2.

As we enjoy Sushi and Sashimi and our friends don't we ordered our own dishes. We ordered their Eggplant Nasu Dengaku . It is excellent if you like Eggplant , We also love their Cone Rolls. They are made and delivered to the table immediately so that the Seaweed Paper is crunchy and delicious. The atmosphere is a little noisy as it gets very busy early with kids.It also has wooden floors and brick walls but the food is great and fresh. It is our go to place for really good Japanese food

The food at Sozai is consistently good without being particularly adventurous; you will get good standard Japanese food. The service is erratic though not the staff as such who are nice and polite, but rather it is almost impossible to have your meals arrive at the same time. At a recent visit my entree and main came which I ended up eating all at once before my husband even got his entree and that we had to ask for several times before it came (it was sushi). Similar delays happen at each visit so from now on we will only order entree and ask it come at same time before we even consider ordering main. Atmosphere is casual and relaxed but don’t sit near the door as it does a roaring take away trade. Really nice food but can be incredibly frustrating!

Six of us shared a number of dishes. The Cones as they call them are really delicious. It is a hand roll and when eaten immediately the seaweed is crunchy and the rice is warm. The Eggplant Nasu Dengaku si excellent also was the Teriyaki Beef and Chicken. Both came with nicely cooked vegetables. The steak was like fillet steak very tender and very tasty
