Was Chris at Batch Espresso a mag?
My friend is a smashed avo fiend and was recommended this place. I had the traditional scrambled eggs with sides which was perfect. Coffee was fantastic and service was great! View all feedback.

Coming to brunch at Batch is my favorite way to start the weekend. The aesthetic is very cool, and I love seeing the art all along the walls and the nods to NZ. No matter how busy it gets, the staff are attentive, kind, and friendly (especially Christy), and they even remember my coffee order. The coffee is fantastic, the food is delicious, and the portion sizes are great. I love that you can have dishes as-is or you can make them vegan friendly (always helpful when eating with a group of friends)! Since it’s located near the botanic gardens and the beach, I also love being able to take out anything I want for picnics. Will be coming back here again; highly recommend. Service: Dine in Meal type: Brunch Price per person: $20–40 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Smashed Avocado with Halloumi Vegetarian options: A lot of items on the menu are already vegetarian friendly, but you can always customize a dish to be more vegetarian vegan friendly (at request) easily. Dietary restrictions: They have a lot of different options and are understanding helpful regarding dietary restrictions. Edit: I forgot to mention their gluten free meals and desserts! I just enjoyed the gluten free raspberry coconut cake, it was perfect with my flat white.

Honestly, it was the best shakshuka and coffee I've had in a long time. The service was excellent too.

One of the longer running cafes in the neighbourhood, and locally regarded as a Balaclava institution . Serving speciality coffee and a varied brunch menu. Batch still has the same retro aesthetic it has had for as long as I 've known it, with NZ memorabilia on the walls, and a comfortable welcoming neighbourhood vibe. Food is excellent, a cut above the usual cafe standards, with better than typical healthy and vegetarian options. Coffee is from experienced Melbourne roasters Coffee Supreme, with house blend on the espresso machine plus the highlight of a single origin filter available on Moccamaster. All up, this is a perfect neighbourhood café with a welcoming atmosphere that does food and coffee exceptionally well. Tables available along pavement as well as inside. Dog friendly. Packed on weekends. Service: Dine in Meal type: Brunch Price per person: $20–40 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Vegetarian options: Vegetarians are spoiled for choice with 15 of the 18 dishes on the menu vegetarian (often with bacon, smoked salmon etc as optional add ons), and there are several vegan options available.

Super delicious food A great little brunch spot! Good portion sizes and tasty coffee. Christy the owner clearly has a lot of regular, loyal customers (I can see why! and it was great to see them coming in; it created a nice community atmosphere. Nice music playing in the cafe I’ll be back! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Good place to have brunch with friends and family. Nice vibe. Friendly staff. Highly recommended Service: Dine in Meal type: Brunch Price per person: A$20–40 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Parking space: Plenty of parking Parking options Free parking lot

Nestled in a bustling brunch district, this café offers a mix of experiences that leaves diners divided. While some patrons rave about the tasty and generous portions, particularly the pea and halloumi croquettes and well-executed scrambled eggs, others express disappointment with lukewarm chai and less satisfactory dishes. Service seems to vary, with some guests appreciating the friendly atmosphere, while others find it lacking. Although the café promises good value and a vibrant community vibe, inconsistencies in food quality and service raise concerns. Overall, this spot is worth a visit, but diners should be prepared for potential surprises on the menu.

My good friend and I came here for lunch on Friday. We had the buttermilk chicken with zesty slaw on the sweet potato. The chicken was melt in the mouth. The sauce and lemon made it all the more delicious! The staff were very polite...and friendly. This place has a great ambience and is nice and cosy. I hope to come back again soon.

Went there once and did not regret it! Went back nearly every weekend after for the delicious baked black beans and a perfect latte. Batch does not disappoint.

Batch Espresso is a Kiwi inspired café located in the heart of Balaclava. As a New Zealander myself, I loved the nostalgic decor that reminded me of home. The menu perfectly captures the essence of New Zealand, offering classic dishes without any unnecessary frills. I tried the Goats Cheese, Zucchini Pea fritters and was pleasantly surprised by their unique take on the dish. The fritters were deliciously old school and the addition of pomegranates added a nice touch to the flavors. I can't wait to return and try the Sticky Date Pancakes next time!

10/10 for the coffee! The focus of the staff on their attention to the quality of the coffee is second to none. The weighing of the coffee and the timer shows their diligence. <br/ <br/ This is a great cafe, good selection of food options. In the past my favourites have been coco pops (reminds me of eating them in the 80s) and good omelettes. <br/ <br/ Even if your not hungry, if your in the area you must try the coffee.

While staying at a friend's place in St Kilda East for the weekend, we decided to find a nearby breakfast spot for Saturday morning. This cafe caught our attention as it was bustling with customers, a promising indicator of delicious food. We were not disappointed - the coffee was excellent and they even offered homemade almond milk. Our order of blueberry pancakes with vanilla ice cream and beef cheek quesadillas was a hit. The quesadilla, a special menu item that day, was flavorful and the beef was perfectly cooked. It was tender and practically melted in our mouths. The pancakes, although a bit too sweet for our liking, were fluffy and soft. Overall, we were pleased with our dining experience at this cafe.
