What Fashion4We doesn't like about Sumo Sushi Express:
It was my first time in so I took some time to look over the menu. When I made my way up to order the lady taking orders was visibly annoyed as she did not greet or even look at me. I gave her my order and she just simply held out her hand as a gesture to pay. I then asked her if she was ok and if she was having a bad day. She tells me that the way I ordered she didn’t understand. I told her it was my first time and... View all feedback.
The interior isn't very impressive, but they have some appealing sushi pictures adorning the walls. They keep drinks in a fridge as well as at the front of the restaurant. We opted for two jasmine-flavored green teas. The sushi itself is quite good for the price. The California roll was decent, while the smoked salmon was enjoyable. The two pieces of nigiri (raw fish on top of rice) were delicious, especially the ikura (fish egg) sushi piece, which I particularly loved. We also tried their canned tea, imported from Singapore, and it was surprisingly tasty. However, the dumplings that came with the sushi were a bit disappointing, and the ginger was too spicy for my liking. Overall, it's a nice spot for takeout sushi, boasting some attractive combo deals.
It was my first visit to the restaurant, so I took my time reviewing the menu. When I approached the counter to place my order, the woman taking orders seemed visibly annoyed; she didn’t greet me or even meet my eye. I placed my order, and she simply extended her hand for payment. Concerned, I asked if she was okay and if she was having a bad day. She responded that she didn’t understand my order. I explained that it was my first time there and I wasn’t familiar with how things worked. I won't be going back. Not only was the sushi subpar, but the rude attitude I encountered made the experience worse. Perhaps she was just having a rough day, but that doesn't excuse being disrespectful to paying customers, especially when the food isn’t great.
This restaurant is primarily a casual takeout spot where you can enjoy cafeteria-style dining. The food was excellent, particularly the gyoza. The service was prompt, and the sushi was outstanding. Overall, I would rate the food and service a perfect 5, while the atmosphere gets a 3.
I decided to go here instead of the subway next door when I saw the word 'sushi' and thought, forget the subway! I moved here from New Jersey in March and hadn't found a new favorite sushi spot yet. I'm so glad I discovered this place today! It's the best sushi I've had in a long time. The owners are very friendly, and their son is just adorable! I'm always happy to support a family-owned business like this one. I will definitely be returning!
The sushi here is incredibly fresh—honestly, I think it's the best in Richmond. Every roll I've tried has been fantastic. My personal favorite is the spicy seafood roll with salmon. The freshness truly sets it apart, and the prices are excellent for the quality you receive. Additionally, there's no tipping required, unlike many other sushi places. On top of that, they offer a $5 sushi roll deal every Wednesday night, which is unbeatable. Great quality sushi for just $5—it's hard to beat that!
