Description

Open Range has garnered attention lately with its recent ownership change, leading to a varied dining experience for patrons. While some rave about the excellent food, friendly service, and engaging comedy shows, others report disappointing meals with greasy fries and overcooked hush puppies. The ambiance offers a pleasant surprise, but issues like long wait times, untrained staff, and inconsistent food quality have raised concerns. Despite the drawbacks, many diners appreciate the reasonable prices and enjoyable atmosphere, suggesting a potential for improvement as the new management settles in. Overall, a restaurant with promise and room for growth.

Based on my experience, this restaurant has a solid reputation, which is why I have given it two stars. We attempted to place an order through DoorDash, but after waiting for quite a while, we were informed that they no longer offer delivery through that service. If you run a restaurant and choose not to use a delivery service, it's essential to remove your establishment from their list. I understand it might be more complex than that, but making customers wait until after 8 p.m. with the expectation that their food is on the way, only to be told you've discontinued your partnership with the delivery service, is unprofessional and detrimental to your business.

Ordered a to go order from DoorDash this afternoon. Ordered a steak, loaded mash, Mac and cheese with a salad. Everything was on point . I wouldn’t expect anything less.

I heard it has changed owners recently. I don 't know. When we walked in the place wasn 't even half full and they said it was at least a 45 minute wait time on the food.Their waitstaff aren 't very well trained. The server didn 't even know if they had Jack at the bar. We asked if they had Jack and she said, I think we do. I know we have Jack and Coke. I ordered a Jack on the rocks, with an ice water. She asked, if I wanted it in a short or tall glass. I said, short. The bartender brought me a tall glass and said that the server didn 't specify tall or short. We got the fried mushrooms as an appetizer, they looked very small, wasn 't any whole mushrooms. The breading on them was tough. When we bit into the first one it wasn 't even hot. It was warm, wasn 't hot, like it sat for a while.I had the grilled catfish. It wasn 't very good, not for a restaurant. It was more like steamed catfish.I asked for another Jack on the rocks. The server brought me a Jack and coke. She said, the bartender accidentally put a little coke in it. Would that be ok or did she need to take it back? I said, that would be ok. When I tasted it, the coke in it was really bland, like they were using a generic coke instead of Coca Cola. I told her that I wanted her to take it back and get me just Jack on the rocks.I doubt I 'll ever go back.I will say that everyone was really nice and courteous. No attitudes. The tables were really sticky too.We moved tables after our dinner, to sit with some friends and they commented on their table too.

I live in Gilmer and I've eaten at Open Range under the old and the new management and I absolutely love it. The food is great. The service is the friendliest you will find in East Texas. The price is reasonable. To the naysayers, maybe check your entitlements at the door! Open Range is by far the best family sit-down, dine-in restaurant within a hundred miles. I'm not a drinker so I can't speak to the bar, but I love the music that gets played.

Mother's day was a nightmare there. They invited all Mother's to come for a free meal. Fantastic right? Well, the fryers were broken, the grill was down so it was an hour 1/2 wait. As we sat there we noticed only 3 tables had people sitting waiting. All the other tables were trashed. No one was bussing. They were all talking to each other ignoring what needed to be done. So, finally our food came out my steak was practically moving.I sent it back it was the same as it was.Thank you for the free meal. It was interesting ? yes. We tipped or waitress very well.
