L'Ardoise had been recommended by a local. We have been scouting the area to the East of Bordeaux and wanted somewhere for a pleasant lunch between viewing properties. L'Ardoise is located conveniently on the road from Moncaret to the attractive village of Gensac. It has plenty of parking and a comfortable shaded terrace for summer dining. The quality of the food was well above that normally expected at small country restaurants. Each dish, from the avocado and crab salad through to rouget and also kidneys with apple in cider, had a well selected balance of flavours and were beautifully presented. The wine list is short but attractive and the local Rose, recommended by madame was inexpensive and complemented the food perfectly. Portions are generous and I only wish that I had not consumed so much of the first two courses that I could not consider the wonderful looking Tarte au Figues for dessert. The selection of perfectly cooked vegetable, provided automatically as part of the price was outstanding and rare in France. If you are in the area we heartily recommend l'Ardoise. Booking for summer evenings is advised and Sunday lunch at any time is required.
I visited 'Restaurant L 'Ardoise ' with my food loving family (wife, mother, father and 2 year old son) expecting a pleasant meal, what we got was the most lovely service, wine and most importantly food any of us have had in any country for a very long time. An absolute must if you like great food, compliments to the chef and his wife x x
We have been visiting 'l 'ardoise quite frequently over the last five years and it has become a favourite for all types of entertaining. Our latest was our first this year and will sadly be our last until next Easter. In summer and early autumn it is a great pleasure to dine on the terrace, though the internal dining room is also attractive. We basked in the sunshine and at a delicious and beautifully present three course lunch. The wine is mostly local and very reasonable. Device, as always was good. The starters and main dishes we ate were all fish based cured salmon, tuna, prawns and scallops and all were delicious. Can 't wait for Easter.
